Paph Lake Shinsei (armeniacum x conco-bellatulum)
FINALLY! I first noticed a sheath holding a bud deep in the crown of this parvi cross back in June/July of 2006-bud finally showed with elongated stem in Jan 2007.Yesterday the bud finally opened to show the flower.I was finally able to give a sigh of relief.Notice the light speckling on the pouch--no --that is not fly specks.Since this is just the second day --I'm waiting to see if the colour will change to intensify or change in any way.New growth has already started:biggrin:

That was a long wait.... Congratulations!
looks great,well worth the wait
I would've lost my mind (what's left of it, anyway ;) )with a wait that long!
Very nice, I love the color! |
I think the only longer wait would be for sanderianum to get to flowering size!!!
I like the combination. |
You can see all the parents clearly in that one. Did you give the plant a cool rest in winter? I understand that some armeniacum hybrids benefit from cooler, brighter and drier in winter to stimulate flowering. If so, perhaps that explains the long time between initial sheath versus a bloom. You win the award for patience!

Awesome bloom!
No-- I treated it the same way as other paph plants.I do tend to keep cool & dry for some of the other parvis but I didn't for this one .Kept it with the multis but in front so got good light.
Nice combination of it's parent's shape and color/pattern.
Beautiful ! Good growing ! Gin
Jane I love it!!!!!!
As for the wait, I would have pulled it out myself a long time ago trying to stretch it out of its sheath :blushing: |
