A Little Detour

Hi everyone,

I just want you to know that if you send me some posts and I'm a little late getting back to you or you don't see too many posts there is a very good reason.

My 30 yr. old daughter was just diagnosed with breast cancer. I will be traveling back and forth to see and help her with our 2 1/2 yr old granddaughter. All I know now is that the Dr's are going to treat her aggressively and there will be surgery. Please keep our family in your prayers because this will be a 'wild journey' for us all. Feel free to PM me. I check my mail often.

If you see someone that comes into your Dr. office and you have been waiting and they go ahead of you, say a prayer because you might have been in their shoes. Your few minutes of extra waiting can mean a big difference in their day of dealing with another test, consultation and stress, etc. Life is full of detours and wild journeys. To happier days :)

Lorraine, your family will be in my prayers

Such a scary thing to deal with but with today's technology and the strides that have been made, it is treatable.

If there is anything that your friends here at Orchidboard can do for you, just say the word :)

I will be praying for your family

My thoughts go out to you as well. Cancer in one's immediate family is not an easy thing to deal with (from my experience.) Keep a cool head and I pray all things work out for the best.

Royal 08-21-2008 02:14 PM

I just said a little prayer for you and your family, especially your Daughter. This kind of thing really puts things in perspective (from my experience). Suddenly orchids are not important at all. Just remember you have us all here to vent or just to get in a good chuckle. Take care.

Lorraine, I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter.
You're help and shoulder right now is just what she needs so be with her.
As an up note, my Mom survived breast cancer and went on to live another 46 years. It can be beat.

Lorraine, you don't know me but you, your daughter and your family will be in my prayers. Stay strong for your daughter. Research her particular kind of breast cancer. From my experience one can never be too informed on the subject and knowledge is key right now.

In my prayers

Lorraine..I will be sure to add you and your family, especially your daughter, in my prayers. As a mom, I can only imagine your own personal pain, but I believe you will be as strong for your daughter as she will need you to be. Do remember to take little moments for yourself.. Eileen

My prayers are with  you and your family.

A diagnosis of cancer is always ominous. Remaining positive is so very important when fighting this disease. Your daughter has many positive influences that should help her with her battle. She's young, she has a child, and she has a wonderful caring mom.

Lorraine 08-24-2008 11:04 PM

Thank you everyone for your prayers. Believe me when I say they help. We are waiting for a few more test results to come in but there for sure is surgery and chemo happening maybe as soon as Friday. So far the good news is that it has not spread. We are all in good spirits and your continued prayers are greatly appreciated. As a parent having to watch your child no matter how young or old have to deal with any type of illness is difficult.

All we can do is try to make the world a better place one day at a time.

I'll be lurking and signing in when I can.

Lorraine,

You and your family are in my prayers.

Lorraine 08-30-2008 10:51 PM

Thank you everyone for your prayers and support. My daughter had her surgery on Friday and we are with her. She is doing well and is coming home Sunday morning. She is not wasting any time or energy being mad or wondering "why me" since there is no one to blame. She is very strong willed and is going at this head on. The easy part of surgery is over but the hard part of chemo treatment is coming. I will be with her for a couple weeks taking care of my granddaughter esp. till she is allowed to do anything. It's tough when her husband needs to be in two places at the same time ...home & work. I know that my help is needed. But this kid is already wearing me down :whew 2 1/2 and ACTIVE. But she is a joy.

Thank goodness I have my gallery to look at to remind me of my chids back home. At least they don't tell me what food they want to eat. I don't give choices anyway. No spoiling on my watch.

To better days.

Lorraine, I'm so glad you checked in with an update :)

Your daughter being strong-willed is going to be what gets her through this..."why me?" would accomplish nothing but depression and a positive outlook and attitude is key for her and your family.

We're here for you ;)

Lorraine 09-13-2008 12:14 AM

Hi everyone :waving

I get to go home on Sunday. My daughter is doing well. Surgery went fine and recovery is progressing. By the time I leave she will be allowed to pick up her daughter.

Your prayers have really helped. I've said the surgery is the easy part and it was...now for 8 rounds of chemo over a span of 16 weeks with a visit to the Dr. the day after for a shot to help the blood count. Then 1 year of infusions every other week and also medication every day for 5 years. This course of treatment in her case is the only way to go. Her Oncologist says she will be cured and not just go into remission. My prayers have been answered. Maybe down the road new and better treatments will be available to her. If you knew my daughter you would see a beautiful young mother with so much confidence, love of family and humor. She is taking pictures of all her friends and family wearing her new wig for a contest of "Who Looks The Best". So far I have 1 vote and so does her husband. I just hope the dog doesn't win if his picture gets taken  Her Dr. says she will be written up in a journal because of the many factors involved in her case.

Royal 09-13-2008 12:26 AM

That's great news! I know it's a long fight, but it's worth it. It sounds like she knows it. Must be the way she was raised. ;)

p.s. My mom dodn't give choices either. I turned out - uh, ok. :)

Bird Song Farm 09-13-2008 03:41 AM

That's wonderful news Lorraine. You can also be proud 'cause she is a reflection of you.
We want to see a pic of the dog in the wig!!!

Merry Christmas to all. :decoratetree:

Just wanted to let you all know that my daughter has 1 more chemo treatment to go. She has been so strong through out the last 4 months. She still has more treatments to go but the chemo will be done Jan 5th. I feel very fortunate that she is a very strong willed young lady. That was evident when she was 3. She commented that she felt lucky that "she could function" normally for the most part. I told her luck has nothing to do with it. Prayers were being sent to her from more people than she could ever imagine. Total strangers to her were remembering her daily.

Thank you all and please keep KC in your prayers. She still has a long way to go before reconstructive surgery can be considered in 2010. KC has the best sense of humour and carries it with her everyday. I am so proud of her.

Our family will be together for Christmas and I can't wait. We even have a wedding to attend on the 26th. More family!!

cb977 12-19-2008 01:25 PM

Lorraine, that's wonderful news!
I'm always thinking of you and your family, happy to hear things are going well

Enjoy your family Christmas...and the wedding!

Swamper 12-19-2008 01:43 PM

That is great news Lorraine. You're right , luck has nothing to do with it. God bless you guys and merry Christmas :)
