Hausermann's sale!

Hi All,
I don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but Hausermann's has their annual sale going on with 20% off all orchids from now to August (?)
I've never ordered from them before, so I am so excited to say I just ordered two Cattleyeas.
One is the Blc. Chia Lin 'Shinsu #1' and a C. Bob Betts!!!!

cirillonb 07-22-2008 02:58 PM

I just received two plants from them about 2 weeks ago--first order. They were much more than I expected (the catalog descriptions leave something to be desired) Excellently packaged. Health all around. As these things go, postage was not outrageous.

gotta go and buy orchids now! see you all later.... I will be much happier and broke!

Royal 07-22-2008 03:14 PM

I got my first mail-order orchid from them many years ago. They are a little pricey sometimes, but the plants are always very large. Splurge and upgrade to a bigger pot size - it'll be worth it.

kiki-do 07-22-2008 03:24 PM

Royal, I got the Chia Lin in a 4" pot, but the Bob Betts is in a 8.5" pot. Holy moly, I've never gotten one that big, but I've always wanted a white Catt. and that is the one that picked me! :) You are right, they are pricey for many, but they have some good deals as well. I had picked out 5, but I had to narrow it down. The sale helped with shipping costs.

Royal 07-22-2008 03:33 PM

Oh, you just wait. An 8.5 inch pot from them is going to be a huge plant! It's amazing that they can even pack and ship one that size. You'll see...

Dorothy 07-22-2008 05:11 PM

I took advantage of Hausermann's 20% off sale last year at this time and purchased 3 Phal violacea crosses .. their medium was a little funky (so consider repotting) but overall, the BS were large and NBS medium sized and healthy... the BSs bloomed for me without any bud blast and I look forward to this year's flowers .. ( Aaaah, violacea! ... Oh, the fragrance :cloud9: )
For the size and the condition of these orchids, I found them to be worth the money

flhiker 07-22-2008 08:32 PM

I've bought many from them and never received a bad plant, and the Sharry baby I got was nearly specimen size. I guess I going shopping.

adlemsi 07-22-2008 09:46 PM

I agree with Dorothy...you should repot your purchases as soon as you receive them. Other than that, their orchid plants are great for the price you pay.

Ranchnanny 07-22-2008 09:57 PM

Kiki-do, thanks for the heads up about the sale at Hausermann's . I just purchased 4 new orchids

Tolumnia Genting Volcano miniature
Tolumnia Genting Peach "
Tolumnia Genting 'Pink Lady' "

Iwanagara Apple Blossom 6inch pot

Can't wait to get them the savings just about paid the shipping cost

:waving Sheridan

quiltergal 07-22-2008 10:40 PM

I ordered from them last year the same time D did. She's right the medium was funky with a little snow mold, but the plants were super healthy. I bought a Phal. violacea x bellina (blooming now) and Phal. equestris (also blooming now). Both are thriving. If you don't mind repotting go for it. :)

PS. Sheridan, Tolus hate S/H so don't even consider it.

kiki-do 07-22-2008 11:24 PM

Hey Terri, you buying anything from them this year? :) Thanks for the tip on repotting, both of you. That's good to know. I don't mind, either, I would rather know what's in there.
Sheridan, I checked out the Tolumnias and they are so nice! I am not familiar with this orchid at all. Wow, though.
I called them about one hour after ordering to ask that they send next week as I remembered a couple appts. I had and want to be here for the arrival. They had already processed and shipped the plants!!!! Wow!!!!
I'm fine with that as it's UPS and not USPS > and now that I know, I will make sure I am here. I just couldn't get over their prompt service. :superwoman Warp speed! I'm super excited as I've never ever ordered such a large plant. This is better than Christmas!

Ranchnanny 07-22-2008 11:31 PM

OK if Tolumnias don't go for s/h what would be a proper mix for them? I like the fact that they are mini's

I will try anything once  I have some bark mix in the potting shed. I have been looking for the smaller bark mix but can't seem to find it locally. :(

I have ordered from Hausermann before it was my first Paph.

adlemsi 07-23-2008 12:18 AM

I received their July/August newsletter and couldn't stop  I'm definitely going to buy the Oncidium Sharry Baby IN BUD and the Phalaenopsis stuartiana x self. I just have to wait for everyone in my apartment to go to sleep :tapfoot: :whistling If they see me ordering more orchids, they'll probably start smashing the ones I already have on my head :bump:

adlemsi 07-23-2008 12:53 AM

:muahaha: I did it!! I just placed my order for the
Oncidium Sharry Baby IN BUD and the Phalaenopsis stuartiana x self

quiltergal 07-23-2008 01:15 AM

I haven't placed an order yet but I'm probably going to get the Paph. henryanum. I just love that little guy. I'm sure it's too little to travel alone so I'll just have to find some TCs. :whistling Shouldn't be too hard!

Sheridan check this thread. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...cano-sick.html I followed Ross's very excellent advice on watering, light, potting medium etc for Tolumnia. I will tell you I was very skeptical about how well it would all work, but the little guy is putting out a new growth so it must be happy. ;)

quiltergal 07-25-2008 02:39 PM

OK, you people are a bad influence on me! I ordered Paph. henryanum, Paph. hirsutissimum, and Pot. Thi-Ti 'Sweetheart'. I think Paph. hirsutissimum may end up too big for my space, but I just couldn't resist. The sale pretty much covered the cost of shipping. Now I need to get some medium prepared because I plan to repot as soon as they arrive.

Yes we are!! awesome choice's and if the hirsutissimum is to big you can send it to me, I will find room

kiki-do 07-25-2008 03:36 PM

I finally got my order!!!! Wow!! One pot is an 8.5" and quite impressive with a sheathe that's huge! That one is Cattleyea Bob Betts 'White Lightning' which will be a white beauty! The other is Blc. Chia Lin 'Shinsu #1' in a 4" pot. No sheathe but new growth. Both excellent and I will repot tomorrow as I just got my medium soaking early this morning.
Packaging was excellent....what can I say, I am pleased all around. My only disappointment is that I could only afford two this time around. But now I know what the fuss is all about with Hausermann's.
I have so many that are small and gonna be a couple years until bloom, so I just wanted that jump this time around.

Royal 07-25-2008 03:39 PM

Nice, I'm looking forward to the pictures. You have to treat yourself every once and a while!

Sheridan, I bought Tolumnias from them last year and the medium was way far gone (rotten). I repotted into straight charcoal (the agricultural chunks, not the grilling kind  ) and one of the two bloomed this year, the other has struggled but finally is sending out roots and new growths. So I trust straight charcoal, in a basket (net pot).

caseydoll 07-25-2008 05:06 PM

I placed an order as well and it was waiting for me on my porch when I got home. :cheer: I got a phal. violacea (in bud) and a phal. mannii. Both are really healthy looking and as Kiki said, the packing was excellent. I was really impressed with the mannii. It was only $10 and it's a lot bigger than I expected! I would dare say it's almost blooming sized but I'm not sure how big they actually get so I'm not positive. :scratchhead:

quiltingwacko 07-25-2008 05:33 PM

Oh Sheridan I ordered some of the same ones you did. I have an Iwanagara but this one looked so interesting. The TGP looked good too. Wish that was all I got. Such lovely photos!

flhiker 07-25-2008 06:55 PM

Well I placed my order too! Got the Phal. (violacea 'Tequila Sunset' x self and the White w/Colored Lip Phalaenopsis Com Pots. With any luck that means 16 or so new plants. Now the long wait.

adlemsi 07-25-2008 09:09 PM

I received my order today too  I got a Phal. Stuartiana x self in a 2.5" pot and an Oncidium Sharry Baby 'Sweet Fragrance' in bud. Their packing was flawless, which I've come to expect. There was no room for the plants to shift in the box and the spike on the Sharry Baby survived it's trip without damage. Even the buds were in good shape!! :D This time around the medium looked fresher but I'm still going to repot, just to be on the safe side. I might hold off a bit with the Sharry Baby so I don't disturb the buds.

I'll post :photo: later...

Here are pics of my purchases. After spending some time getting the cool air from my a/c, one of the buds on the Sharry Baby 'Sweet Fragrance' started to open  I'll probably repot the Phal. Stuartiana x self on Sunday morning, after soaking the fresh medium overnight. I'm still debating on whether I should repot in medium bark mix or transfer it to s/h :scratchhead: :hmm

quiltergal 07-26-2008 02:19 AM

That's a very nice stu you have there. The leaves are so pretty!

adlemsi 07-26-2008 02:20 AM

:thanx:

Grandma M 07-26-2008 07:01 AM

They look great. That Sharry Baby must have been a monster to pack and ship.

Oh my word! That Sharry Baby is huge!!!!! It must have been in a very large box...I mean a box the size of the whole UPS truck!
I just measured my Catt. Bob Betts which is in an 8.5" pot and it's 9" around and 17" tall. I find that amazing, but your plant leaves me speechless....well, not really, I'm never speechless, I can go on and on and on! :coverlaugh: I should have the OB name of 'motormouth' instead of kiki. :blushing:
BTW, I will post pics soon also.

adlemsi 07-26-2008 09:10 AM

The box they shipped my new orchids in measures 35"Lx7"Wx7"D. They REALLY did an outstanding job packing these :bowing They curved the spike just so, without causing any damage to the buds or the spike itself. It took me about 5 minutes to remove the shredding packing bits they wrapped around it to protect it!

The The Sharry Baby itself measures about 40" from the top of pot to the tip of the spike, has about 70 buds (1 is already blooming:D ), and is potted in a 4" pot.

Scruffy 07-26-2008 09:21 AM

Hausermans is a great outfit. I've always been happy with their plants.

quiltingwacko 07-26-2008 09:57 AM

Wow Scruffy! What is that orchid on your avatar? It is so pretty. Just so I am not hijacking the thread, I just checked my "want" list and nothing I bought from Hausermann's is on it. I am so gone. I set the list right in front of me while I shopped. :blushing:

My avi is a noid Tolumnia. I love it even if it's nameless...I didn't get it from Hausermans, btw..

quiltingwacko 07-26-2008 10:36 AM

I DID buy a Tolumnia. It isn't that gorgeous, but still irresistible. What kind of medium is yours planted in?

quiltergal 07-26-2008 12:05 PM

Check out this thread for Tolu. care, culture and potting medium. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...cano-sick.html

I have lots of chunky charcoal left from my one repot so if you need some let me know. (I have a teeny net pot too).

adlemsi 07-27-2008 12:48 AM

SHARRY BABY 1ST BLOOM!!

Here is a pic of the first bud (fully bloomed  )from my Onc. Sharry Baby 'Sweet Fragrance'!!! The only thing that has me slightly concerned is a yellowing leaf it has. It wasn't in direct sunlight, it's actually the furthest from the window. I did water it with MSU, but at the weakest strength.

adlemsi 07-27-2008 11:36 AM

My Onc. Sharry Baby 'Sweet Fragrance' has a 2nd bud blooming!! It should be fully open by tomorrow morning, judging from the progress made by the 1st bloom. The 1st bloom is giving off a sweet fragrance, just like it's name ;) It's not chocolate or vanilla scented, more like a sugary baking smell. You have to sniff really close to it to catch it.

quiltingwacko 07-27-2008 01:07 PM

Oh I think I just might have to have one of those! Lower in calories than baking cookies!!

adlemsi 07-27-2008 01:19 PM

Yeah, if only they could trick my tummy to think it had some

I'm hoping once all the buds bloom they'll smell more like chocolate
