i love the Myrmecophila - really wonderful coloring and patterning. :)

DirtyCoconuts 11-19-2019 11:11 PM

Thanks! That is actually the mother of a few of my plants. I just always loved that pic because that inflorescence is about 9’ long. That perspective was always fun to me.
My flowers of the same plant are always pinker.

Gotcha.

I had tried to remove those as they bothered someone

I am an attorney and I made that email in law school since I was in law school lol

And it happens to be true ;)

As the moderator who requested he remove, and someone who's dallied with laywers for years, I approve this message. Especially when truth is an obvious defense.

Oddly, as the prude in the group, I don't remember being offended, only curious. My goodness, for once I didn't cause trouble! 🤫

neophyte 01-21-2020 01:47 PM

the white borders on the dendrobium flowers are quite stunning! :)

OrchidBro 01-21-2020 02:25 PM

I got my mother-in-law a dendrobium that looks exactly like your "pew pew pew". The tag reads Den. Remy Hartmann

Orchid Hybrid: Dendrobium Remy Hartmann | ORCHIDS.ORG

Hers is also in bloom and smells like black licorice.

DirtyCoconuts 01-21-2020 04:52 PM

okay- i have to go tag hunting....that is a really close match....i bet it is the same plant

DirtyCoconuts 01-24-2020 04:39 PM

---------- Post added at 04:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:36 PM ----------

oh, one more....this is pretty exciting for me as I have about 10 of these bulb orchids ( i can find the name somewhere but i think they are Chinese hardy?) and they all have been sending up leaves and then they disappear and i assumed it was some pest and they were doomed to purgatory but then...…!!!!!

NICE, yes, thank you, Ma'am!

WaterWitchin 01-24-2020 05:52 PM

Ah, tropical. I live vicariously. Other than falling iguanas. That makes me sad.

DirtyCoconuts 01-24-2020 06:08 PM

Don’t be sad, they are fine.
In fact, they are flourishing and evolving and will take over the state, soon the county and inevitably, the entire temperate civilized world lol

Seriously, they are a big problem here and I don’t condone the needless killing of anything but cold is their only natural predator and the relative warming of the planet has let them evolve to be more cold tolerant allowing them to survive the cold and expand their territory north.

The state has declared that you can kill them any non-cruel way but that is a lot of wiggle room to someone with bad intentions

Nice that humor can come through in text over the internet :)

Without timing, tone, and my hilarious facial expressions, you really only get a part of the message

OrchidBro 01-24-2020 10:05 PM

Glad you found the tag for that Remy Hartmann. The moment you posted that photo I knew I had bought one (at Publix) before. That flower shape is pretty distinct and with the white border. I just had to search through some really old photos to find it. Now you need to let me know if it smells like black licorice as well!

P.S. I hate the smell of licorice in general which is why I gave it to my mother-in-law, lol

DirtyCoconuts 01-25-2020 09:18 AM

Poor mother in laws! Lol always getting the shit we don’t like hahahahaha

Dollythehun 01-27-2020 10:39 AM

Yes. Parsley is a biennial. As you know, biennials flower the second year, set seed, and die. If you want to try to fool it into growing another year, you can cut off the flowers.

and this was a total shock..i got this Dichaea longea at the Miami show and it was in poor shape and quite dehydrated...well this teeny, tiny flower appeared. i am quite ignorant about this Genus and i bought it bc it was there and i had never seen anything like it and it was not expensive ( the deadly Bermuda triangle of orchid purchasing)

Orchidbro, you mentioned that your Nobiles were behind mine...it is really odd, all the Nobiles on the south side of my house are just at this phase, the ones in the lath house are in full bloom and the one in the mango tree on the west side is really confused....one cane with fully open flowers and the one right next to it just forming buds??

That rescue vanda root growth looks great and yes, Kelpmax is a blessing for root development. Yes, my two den. nobile haven't bloomed yet but almost there. I would say two more weeks until open. I actually have a lot chids budding right now and my Encyclia cochleata (I think the correct name for it now is Prosthechea cochleata) just opened yesterday. Those catts look wonderful as well and should put on a great show, well, one already is.

Here is one of my Den. nobiles. This is one of my oldest orchids as I have had it for over 8 years now. Last year after it finished blooming I repotted it into a bigger container.

Dollythehun 02-03-2020 10:20 AM

That's a monster!

OrchidBro 02-03-2020 10:32 AM

Thank you! It is definitely my biggest orchid and quite unruly but I don't mind. It is very happy hanging on my patio in full sun year round.
