Default new arrival catt repot

In the tropics over here ------ I mentioned that I unpot pretty-much every newly arriving orchid - and put it into my own pots and own media.

This pic was taken maybe half an hour ago, half-way through getting the old media out. And now has its new pot and new media.

And the supervisor ----- always keeping an eye on things heheh .... also happens to have a patch of fluff over one eye hehehehe.

Talking

First looked at Gingercat and thought that was food for her-duh. Once the coffee kicked in, the brain worked. Blooms are pretty too.

Lovely flower! and lovely kitty! <3

Interestingly, so far my cat (tortie) has no interest whatsoever in my orchids, for which I am very grateful. My other houseplants are regularly chewed, but not the orchids for some reason. She's a smart girl!

I haven't bought a single Orchid this year actually (unless you count the one I bought my mum)
but the first repot was probably the most time confusing for me. I have had to repot a few this year and still need to repot a few more by the end of the year but that will just be increasing the pot size which won't take long. It's been nice not having to deal with much repotting.

I remember last year I spent 2 hours picking out old media from the roots of a dendrobium and then the plant did not survive the winter. temps That was a fruitless annoying waste of time, some are not that bad but yeah some are a nightmare to repot. Hope yours are ok. Helps that they look so nice to give you an incentive.

hahaha DC! Thanks for those very nice comments! I had exactly the same thoughts when I looked at that pic ------ it really reminded me of those dog-food pieces hehehe

It did look like food of some sort hehehe

Whenever gingercat sees new things in the environment, she needs to investigate and then to own it hehehe

Nice name!!! Also ------ having no interest in the orchids is a massive gift! I have heard and seen the results online (in pics that some orchid owners shared with us) some 'results' (aftermath results of orchid versus cat ----- gruesome!!!!!!!). Interesting she chews house-plants! They probably need to get their 'greens' or fibre or something. Not sure! I have definitely seen my cat sometimes - on some occasions only - eating some grass.

Thanks for your post S.F!

What you mention about the climate conditions, like serious winter conditions - always gives me an appreciation of what growers have done with their orchids to get them set up, and maintain nice growing conditions for them ----- especially in regions where it gets very cold, or very dry etc.

I know what you mean about ---- can be nightmare to repot!!!!! Some orchids that arrive here may be in plastic baskets ----- so it can test patience hahahaha. One handy tool that I use for 'disconnecting' the basket from the plants is ---- tin snips. Metal cutter tin snips!
