Default Dracula Lotax

Hi All,

This is possibly my favorite orchid, and I am proud to say that I have managed to get this orchid to thrive and bloom on my windowsill. Early this season, the plant put up three spikes, but the humidity was too low and they withered. This time, it put up a single spike, and I managed to get this one to bloom! Here are a few pictures of it.

Ha, I just noticed one of the photos is tiny (because I made it my avatar...)

Zoi2, I am growing it in a mix of sphag and fine bark in a plastic pot, which is then lined with sphag and put in a terracotta pot to keep the roots cool. I water once a week, soaking 20 min to half an hour with distilled H20, and I also mist it daily (AM) with distilled H20. I just keep it on an east facing window, and it seems pretty happy!

Awesome! I am envious. I have one of these but it is just limping along. My temps are a bit too warm for it I suspect.

Hey Paul,

You might look into double potting it in clay to cool it down, if you haven't already. It really seems to help, the pot is always cool to the touch!

I have a masdie right next to my dracula that is also not liking my temps, so I purchased a "coolpot" for it today, as a trial. I will, of course, let people know how it works out!

Thanks for the info Sekhmet.
I've been wanting to try a lotax for years but am afraid my summer temps are a bit warm. I may just get one and try the double pot idea.
