I used to have a similar setup ..in a terrarium that works fantastically; 3 times a day automatic mist and an 8 volts computer fan. But, I mounted them in cork with sphagnum, but I don't recommend that. Much better to have a 5mm bark mixed with some alkaline rock or seashell.
The water quality and avoiding over 25°/70° is super important.

Since I'm in the PNW, my outdoor conditions are pretty good for Masdevallia for half the year. But for the other half of the year where I need to bring them indoors, while I can provide the cool temps needed, I can't provide the humidity (indoor humidity is 50%).

How fast do Masdevallia succumb to low humidity? Because if they can just tolerate it for half the year, I think I can still hope to try my hand at them.
don't claim to be an expert but I have tried growing masdies on the windowsill. depends a great deal on the variety. some hybrids are very tolerant, and 50% isn't that bad for the home. I tried coccinea and veitchiana. those aren't nearly as happy with low humidity.

I agree, depends on which ones. Some are more tolerant of both low humidity and higher-than-ideal temperatures, than others. You can "extend the range" a bit by using two nested terracotta pots, and sphagnum. So you maintain some extra humidity around roots, and also get evaporative cooling. You just have to try... you won't have 100% success but the survivors are very rewarding.
