Default Mariposa Lily

Anyone else like Calochortus? Once I started looking for them, it became apparent there was more than meets the eye. There are so many different colors and shapes. And the bulbs are edible! I don't try to grow any, but I do like to look for them while wandering around in the deserts and forests around here.

I love these beauties. Where I come from, Utah, they have a variety they call Sego Lilies that the Mormon settlers ate to keep them alive during the first years after settling there.

Well if you insist here are some more. The photo with several flowers is one that grows within the Reno city limits. Calochortus Leichtlinii, I think.

Am I recalling correctly that the blooms, though beautiful, are very shortlived?
