Sedirea japonica with slowly browning stem
Unhappy Sedirea japonica with slowly browning stem

My sedirea’s stem is slowly browning and it has been losing leaves for the past 2 months. The leaves fall of from their attachment to the stem (sort of the petiole) even when they’re green. Some of the roots have also browned up and shriveled.

Grown mounted with a bit of moss in temperatures ranging from 26-30 C during the day and up to 18 C at night. Recently sprayed it with serenade biofungicide and other probiotics.

I was wondering if I should cut the browning part to stop it from further spreading?

Have a look at the St. Augustine Orchid Society page on pests and diseases. You may have collar rot.

Thanks! Looks like I have to do a little surgery and more treatment. I hope it survives

Mine dropped its leaves like that in the heat (above 90F). Can you give it cooler temps?

I did notice the symptoms got worse when the temps were high. Yes, I've been giving it temps below 80F now.
