Default Epidendrum with red spots on leaves

Hello everyone! Has anybody ever seen such marks on an Epidendrum radicans? This one is the variety Rose Valley Cardinal and always develops these spots on canes. The flowers are red, could it be a natural coloring? I put mine in high light (Epis are supposed to like it), intermediate temps, good watering. Can't see any bugs on underside of leaves, but photo shows some pitting... I'm afraid it could be virused, any input you could give me? Thanks!

This could be from high light or heat. How hot are the leaves under the lights? Do they feel warm to your hand? If they do, that's too hot.

I'll check the leaf temperature and try moving it to another place if necessary. Thanks for your comment!

I should have mentioned two other things - first, magnesium deficiency can cause red pigmentation, especially during cool weather. Do you have magnesium in the water you use for your orchids, or do you supplement?

Second, if its not magnesium deficiency, the plant is otherwise growing well, and these spots don't turn into dead areas, I wouldn't worry about it. High light is not a problem with Epis unless the leaves burn.

I do supplement with Cal-Mag during the warmer months. Maybe it's time to resume... Thank you, I think that might be the answer!

I had something similar as you can see on the first pic, but since the plant looked healthy I just let it be.
1.5 months later you can see the result on pic two.
It is the first time it has flowers so I do not know if that is a normal behavior.

Hello Kollba! Yes, the spots on the leaves of your plant do look similar to mine. Very nice blooming, makes me think that these spots are not that bad for an orchid! As I said in my last post, I will increase magnesium for my Epidendrum and see what happens. I will report any result either way...

I'm going to disagree with ES (for once.) Mine grow in full sun all summer with no spots. I'd echo a cal/mag defiency. That should be a very vigorous plant but, it doesn't appear to be. I use time release fertilizer, put them out in full summer sun and water (summer) frequently.

Thanks for your comment. I know that they are supposed to take full sun, I will however monitor leaf temperature and up the cal-mag. It never was a very healthy-looking plant, I kind of rescued it from the store!
