Ugh. My first paph I bought at an orchid show less than 2 weeks ago and as I move away the dirt this is what I find. This is bad right? Help:-( Repot and remove? Cinammon etc? or is this normal? (but I really doubt that). And hello as I just joined so looking forward to being an orchid info junkie with ya'll here

My inclination would be to re-pot it and you want to shoot for damp but not wet conditions. This does look like some type of infection.

If you really want to save the plant, you may need to try some type of systemic anti-fungal. I pretty much just let my plants sink or swim while providing a good growing environment so hopefully someone will chime in with specific treatment recommendations.

Fingers crossed for you!

Could be erwina. If it was my plant I would make a paste of cinnamon and alcohol and slather it all over the infected area. Do something sooner than later, erwina strikes quick.

Totally agree. Got to stop this spread. Adequate air movement in the growing area will be beneficial. Avoid having the stem and roots very wet for long periods of time. Could also try agri-fos or some other systematic treatment.
