Sick Oncidium Continuation
Default Sick Oncidium Continuation

So the continuation regarding my "sick" Oncidium, I decided to take it out of the pot again, I mean the bad part just simply had to go. So when It took everything out of the pot this is what I discovered. Practically NO ROOTS! The roots had all gone soft and mushy.

Another interesting thing is that I removed a browning sheath, and discovered something hidden under it. It looks like something that could have become a flower spike? Or I don't know what... Anyway, it's dead so what's the point.

Time to chuck out the lonely pseudobulb with new growth that turned soft and mushy...

(I added an older picture too of when the new growth was just starting to come out, before it turned yellowish and mushy)

The second part of the orginial orchid (it was one but I had to divide it in two to get rid of the rotten pseudobulbs it had a couple of months ago).

So this is the other part. What I discovered about this one is that most roots were also GONE... most roots were no good.

I think this explains the wrinkled pseudobulbs and the accordion leafs. It does have however a new growth/pseudobulb that is a couple of months old. The good news is that this one is pushing some new roots. I also noticed something surprising right in the middle... Is that a new growth coming?

Seriously something has to be done here... the roots keeping rotting, that's not good.

Why do my pictures keep coming horizontally? You have to turn your heads to see them. Sorry about that.

The sideways pictures are a software glitch associated with the site, not your fault.

Now you have some good roots, more coming, and a couple of new growths of different sizes. Just let it grow. New clean medium. Too bad about the other bulb, but at least you had a second one.

Maybe give mounting or inorganic media a try? Near me, a grower maintains a lot of the species mounted, others are grown in either granite chips or bark. Alternatively, if you want to stick with bark, maybe give a net pot a try.

See if you can work something where you can give it a good daily morning watering and then be dry by evening. The plant seems to be trying to grow but something in the current conditions just isn’t to its liking.

Thanks, for your replies. I'll try to have a look at changing the medium.
