Kilmiquix, really good idea of growing your orchids there! If they grow well, don't lose their flowers and don't change their colour it means everything is good with them and they like conditions you provide them. So don't worry also about this air movement!

I have a mango tree with a bunch of orchids growing right on the branches and trunk. I kind of regret having chose that tree, first because it creates too much shade, I thin out the canopy every year to let some light down. And secondly the mangos tend to do quite a bit of damage when they start falling.
Here in CR I've seen some people with Sobralias planted in the ground in full sun. I personally have Catasetum maculatum, Encyclia cordigera, Brassavola nodosa, Epidendrum umbelliferum and "lluvia de oro" Onciduim sp. growing in nearly full sun.

I grow several schomburgkia/myrmicrophelia in our full sun. The get what is call interrupted full sun as there are a few trees on the horizon and somewhat adjacent that shade them on and off for about a third of the day.

I have a few NoID Catts that i grow in basically full sun. They are dully exposed from dawn to one

Good one, mate. I, too, have a mango tree where I put some orchids, but, I have established a micro climate under my tree. It contains caladiums, dumbcanes, elephant ears, spanish moss staghorn and elkhorn ferns and numerous logs to which I have attached orchids. Just a thought that you could do something like this with your garden.
Watering is only done when I remember to do it...As I live in a 70-75 inch rain belt, humidity is not a problem.
The first photo shows the mango tree and the micro climate.
The second photo shows hollow logs under my macadamia tree that is under part of the mango tree. These logs are home to phallys, cattleyas and a few dendrobiums. and the last photo shows the other side of the mango tree, with a few more logs and dendrobiums.

I'm jealous of you folks with mango trees. They are my favorite fruit and the leaves don't fall so you have the perfect spot for orchids. I'm afraid they don't grow in Massachusetts.

Mango leaves do fall and how! We spend 2, or 3 weeks every year, sweeping up and using the dead leaves as mulch.
Well, we did until I was told that my tree has anthracnose. So, into the wheely bin they go now.

What I meant is that they don't lose all of their leaves at once. I did spend several winters in Costa Rica where they grow well. I had to move back to the US after some medical issues. Now at least I can take good care of my US orchid collection.

Ah, yet another person with excellent weather for orchids. Did I mention a lifetime Kansas person occasionally gets jealous? :rofl:
