Default Big Island Volcano park flower ID?

This stuff looks like grass and was growing around an old crater. The stems go straight down into the ground and I didn’t feel any paeudobulbs at the bottom. It totally looks like a cattleya flower to me but the weedy leaves and no pseudo bulbs and growing out of the ground??!!

Yep. One of the more pleasant and less destructive of Hawaii's invasive species. That said, I remember being so excited about seeing wild orchids when I moved to Hilo in 2002!

Invasive terrestrial orchids are very common in Puna [where the NP is located], and the rest of Big Island.
Probably the three most common ones are:

Arudinua gramanifolia,
Sphatoglottis plicata,
and
Phaius tankervilleae

They are seen almost everywhere in waste areas alongside the roads, sometimes covering large areas, got a bunch scattered around my yard, too.

The correct spelling of the genus is arundina.
