Default So I bought some more plants.......

Well a couple who live near me decided to sell their thousands of plants as they are moving house and no longer have time to care for them. They are two of the most knowledgeable growers you will ever meet and imagine the wonderful opportunity it presents when you have first choice at thousands of Paphs, Phrags, Bulbo's, Oncid's and Phalaenopsis including a number of awarded plants (Nugget will now who I am talking about). I walked away with about 35 plants but I think I picked some nice ones.......it would take a monster orchid house to buy them all.........does it matter if I don't get to eat for a week or so? ha ha ha......no seriously.........does it?

Anyway of course I had to take photos just to show off a little. As you can see there are some very large plants and some smaller ones.

Here is a photo of all the plants.

First two plants:

Phrag Noirmont 4N - very large flower and a great looking flower.
Ascda Udomchai 'Pink' - flowering size plant (got this for free).

This tray has 8 phrags - one was a speciment plant which I divided into 6.

Phrag Olag Gruss 'Queenscliffe' HCC/AOC (4N) x 6 Plants
Phrag Belle Hougue Point
Phrag Belle Royal 'Queenscliffe' HCC/AOC

This tray has the following plants:

Paph Delrosi
Paph vietnamense x micranthum
Paph micranthum x Ho Chi Minh x 4 plants (Grex name is 'Puffy')
Paph Sussex Pearl
Phrag Hanne Popow
Phrag Belle Hogue Point
Paph Norito Hasegawa
Paph hangianum x micranthum
Paph Raspberry Sundae (I got this because I love the name so much)

Final Tray has the following:

Paph Sea Sunset
Paph Dollgoldi x 2 plants
Paph Primechild - very large unflowered seedling
Paph Harold Koopowitz
Paph Armeni White
Paph Wossner Concotiger
Paph Fumi's Delight x rothschildianum
Paph Ho Chi Minh x 2 plants
Bulbophyllum bicolor

It is simultaneously awesome to be able to take advantage of such a situation, and rather sad that the folks had to give them up. Did they keep at least of few of their favorites?

Selling off their collection must have come as a sudden event with so many seedlings in the mix. This happens quite often and must be very sad for the person moving on. This happened recently to a neighbor of mine after the house he lived in was forclosed on. Thirty years of orchid collecting dispersed in a week, no labels so everything is NOID. I take extra good care of the two Catt hybrids I got from David, almost as a way to honor him and prove that life goes on.

I sympathize with the couple, and I am glad you got some great phrags and paphs!! it is hard to lose plants you have been growing for over 30 years, and those you bought as babies and never get to see bloom....very hard...but, it is good to add to anothers collection, and know that your 'children' are loved and appreciated! good luck to you all!
