It’s gorgeous! Although you have me worried, if it needs that many growths to bloom I have a long wait.

Mine just bloomed for the first time this year, and was about 4 years from purchase to get there on what started as a seedling with 5 bulbs. Definitely worth the wait, but painful to watch it send up a blind sheath last year! |

my division of 'Mrs. Chase' blooms reliably with 3-5 growths, like any other cattleya. just needs a tad more light. and I'm told these don't like to dry out fully (although of course you need good drainage).

I've decided I don't have time to water this enough so I've stopped buying new ones. Mine hardly grow at all, whether I start with seedlings or older plants. I have one left that's mostly been eaten by rats. I can't bear to throw it away but I know it will make one new growth maybe every 2-3 years unless I can figure out how to water and fertilize more often.

Thanks! I live in dry San Diego, and it seems to do just fine mounted. Im not near the coast so I dont have the moist temperate climate like Andys orchids… I would say that it did pout for a year before it started to take off. After a year and a half of raid growth, it flowered.
I also mount my brassavola cucullata and grow it outdoors here. Seems happy…
Its difficult to imagine how it could possibly not get enough moisture in florida haha… i recall it raining pretty much everyday in the southeast US.
