Folding away from the ovary is a good sign. Change in colour is also an indicator, and if you look at the column it should be swollen.

Here's a Phal violacea 3 days after pollination.

You are totally right! In some species petals and sepals change and turn green to photosynthesize.

It's not the case with plants in the Aphyllae section, they just dry.

wow, that flower looks a lot better after 3 days than this one does after 2! makes me reduce my estimate to about 2%, hahahah ah.

and thanks neophyte for that little tidbit, i hadn’t realized that. so far i have only attempted 2 crosses, and both were within the phal group. so much to learn about orchids, they really are quite diverse, eh?!

not sure, but now im at an optimistic 10% success for this cross. at least some of the morphological changes i was reading about seem to be taking place, but the times quoted for the growth of pollen tubes on the braceana make me still wonder if perhaps it was stimulated to induce pollination but no actual fertilization will take place. it would be so cool though if we could get some viable seed from this and maybe be the first cross with mini mark as pollen donor. admittedly this feels like a challenge!

edit to add a quick pic of the other capsule we have going. it’s around 4 months and looking good! just a practice cross of 2 grocery noids, but still important to us!
