I worked long and irregular shifts for many years. The dogs get used to it, but it's been so much nicer to be retired and enjoy more time home with them. Are you driving through snow and ice today? Be careful!

I worked last evening and it was horrendous. The drive home took me twice as long. But I made it as usual. My garage door for some reason was very slow to go up, and as I have to get a very fast running start down on the road to get up the driveway, I very nearly ran into the door. And then I got stuck. Had to spin my wheels very hard to Lurch into the garage. Quite irritating I will say. I need to have the sensor on the garage door opener that's hangs inside checked out. Usually I can get the door to start going up from down the road so that the door is up by the time I come flying up that icy driveway. Today though the weather is clear and there will be no worries driving in or back home again. Wish I was retired. The way things are now I think I will be able to be retired around the age of 106! Okay well maybe 92...

Our orchid society Christmas party is later today. I'm home doing chores.

I repotted a number of plants yesterday. It's been so warm things are starting to grow for Spring. We had just enough rain at the airport and downtown this week to dampen the rain gauge, but the rest of the metro area got none. So we've had no real rain since early August. Predictions are that there will be no rain as far out as the predictions go, which is mid January.

I would have done more repotting today, but it's also getting ready for tax filing season, so I'm working on getting papers together.

This morning I walked into the sunroom when the sun was shining in. I noticed immediately the sweet fragrance of an Oncidium in bloom. It's Burrageara Nelly Isler 'Swiss Beauty' from the nice shipment I reported on from Hausermann's a week ago. It arrived with one flower open.

I've had the nicest day! Friday we went to IKEA and got a new island for the kitchen (our house is tiny, so everything is too big) its a tight squeeze but, very cute. Now I am on to streamlining the rest of the kitchen in lieu of new cabinets. So yesterday I had a nice morning with my ladies study and then in the afternoon, the Chief put together the IKEA purchase.

We were under a weather advisory so we snuggled in. Our pastor texted me to let us know that church was cancelled (we go on Sat. night). Right after another pastor friend of ours texted me to invited us to their Sunday celebration with their postponed from Saturday potluck. I got up this morning and whipped up a batch of brownies and we went. The worship was amazing and Dave's sermon was short and pithy, the potluck was excellent (the Chief loved it). It was so good to connect with old friends! I got the nicest compliment (one of several lately {I am not good at taking compliments}). Someone said that "every time he sees me he smiles." AND, I do not have to cook tonight! YES!!!! So, everyone, Merry Christmas! (And thank you DEAC for always reminding me and making me smile). Happy Orchid Sunday to you all!

This weekend I went to visit my parents, 100 miles from here. Today I woke up late so the day was a rush, I even couldn't visit the greehouse where I routinely buy orchids. Also our country and north of Spain are under the effects of the winterstorm Ana so I planned the trip back home in time to avoid the worst weather.
As I got home I dedicated some time to water the plants more in need and in an hour or so I'm planning to go to sleep while I ear the wind and rain outside.
Isn't it good?

You mentioned the other day that you don't have snow. So for you what does a winter storm look like?

Lots of rain and strong winds (over 100 km/h), snow in the higher lands (100 miles from here or closer when it's really cold), floods, trees falling. The usual scenario.

As long as you don't put yourself at risk, that's ok. Not something like an hurricane or a tornado (although lately we have them too, usualy when the weather is warmer.

It's dusty. Remember it hasn't rained here since the first week of August. The airport and downtown got just enough to record as a trace earlier this week, but nobody else got rain.
