We have had a small amount of rain ,enough to give me about 2000 liters in my tank ,I am rationing this to to only the best of my plants each plant will get about 500 mils of water a day . I have stopped watering my seedlings as they can be replaced when the rains return Hopefully they say in August or September.
During this time of the year, as it cools down in the early morning we have a heavy dew which condensates on the plants and I am hoping that this will help all my epiphytes growing outside of the green house survive This terrible drought is taking its toll on plants in the wild . We put out a basin of water for the birds and insects every day . At the moment I am seeing praying mantis come indoors searching for prey or maybe water !! this I have never experienced before !! I had one walk over my face the other night while asleep ,thinking it might be a mozzie I killed it and felt so bad about that , they are my favorite bugs as they have such "attitude" . Another unusual experience is that field mice are invading homes here and it is a constant struggle to keep them out of your home . So if you dont have a cat or dog they will lift you up can carry you out of the front door !!
This City will run out of water in about two months and that will bring on a catastrophe never experienced here before . industry will come to a grinding halt and I expect many will have to move away to areas which have water . Once before when Ford removed its factory here the city was dubbed with the name "the ghost on the coast "and its looks as though that is about to happen again ,we will be hearing comments like "will the last one out switch off the lights "!!!
