Tried searching the forum for this and didn't see it anywhere. So want to try it, but have a feeling I'd end up spending the weekend doing every single one...

If you click on them they show a more realistic looking picture of each one and they look a bit cheap and fake, the only real picture that looked alright was the Palau Hyacinth Orchid.

You should make that one and show us what it looks like in rl.

The negativity is strong with this one.

…and just how close to real life does an origami bird look?

Now, this is lovely!
I've done many paper orchids myself, cutting, painting and assembling them, even, many many years ago converting eggshells into an easter orchid mobile with different orchids, the big body of the egg being the lip. The next step, naturally, was creating new, fantasy, orchids, with my preferred combinations of colours, form and 'genus'. I wouldn't call it origami, as this here is not done from knitting one sheet of paper.

Raising awareness is always good. Making money with it can be troublesome if it comes together with some kind of copyrights.

Best is inspiring own fantasy and growing creativity by doing, changing, modelling ...

Ray, why do we grow orchids if we can just buy a plastic plant and stick paper flowers on it.

my strength gets fed by the members on this board. Too many are eager to pump me up with energy.

I just think it is funny you should find me appeciating an orchid for the uniqueness it is and finding a cheap replica to be a bit tacky. The upside is it won't die and won't need any watering. If you like it for that why not but I doubt it will win an award at an orchid show

Doesn't the yellow one look like a canary bird? Close enough ...

Money spent is for a good cause, conservation of North American native orchids. (All of which are endangered...) These aren't intended to be a replacement for the real orchids (most of which one cannot grow in captivity!) but rather a fun project. A few seed-grown native orchids are available from nurseries, that have a chance of growing in captivity, but most, you either have to hike to where they are, or appreciate photos taken by other people who have done those hikes. Most of these are very dependent on the mycorrhyzae in the soil where they live, typically don't even survive if moved with surrounding dirt. Totally dependent on habitat preservation.
