Default American Orchid Society Orchid Culture Day

The American Orchid Society will be holding a day of speakers for members, Saturday, January 29, 2022. If you are not a member of the AOS there is still time to join and register. Here is the announcement I received:

Dear Orchid Enthusiast,

Join us for our Second Orchid Culture Day. You will hear great speakers and learn about Aeridinae and Angraecinae culture, commonly referred to as the Vanda and Angraecum Alliances. Topics will cover from home growing to greenhouse growing.

Our four distinguished speakers:
Kim Fedderson of Fair Orchids. "Yes, You Can Grow Vandaceous Orchids at Home."

Jason Fischer of Orchids Ltd. "Culture and History of Neofinitia falcata (now V. falcata)"

Bob Fuchs, President of RF Orchids. "Latest Trends in Vanda Hybridizing."

Brenda Oviatt of Botanica Ltd. "Angraecoids: Conservation and Culture."

Saturday, January 29th @ 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM EST
This event will be held virtually using the AOS GotoWebinar platform.

Cost: $30

I'm not a member but will these talks be available for viewing for free later? They all seem really interesting!

I would also be interested what the last speaker has to say on Angraecums. Such an elusive orchid.

Found a brief article by the speaker:

https://botanicaltd.com/wp-content/u...s4o_124497.pdf

very informative stating " the best time to divide them is shortly before they rot"

Now that is really helpful isn't it.

but they do mention their fertilizer schedule which interests me the most: "We rotate fertilizer formulas and always
provide micronutrients."

Ie micronutrients all year, (including winter) rotating between grow and bloom formulations to achieve a balanced mix.

And just to point out the not so obvious, the Erasanthe Henricii they show in that article, you do not see that in cultivation often. To see them grow such a magnificent species to flower so well, their advice is worth gold. If they say to carry on feeding micro nutrients with every plain watering you add micronutrients

That was a lovely read! I really would like to hear that talk now, I love hearing people talking about how they raise otherwise mysterious orchids
