Import to the US from Europe Male
Default Import to the US from Europe

👋 hello !
I'm going back to regularly traveling back and for between the two continents and of course I'd like to make advantage here and there of trips. I previously only brought seeds for tomatoes.. however, this time I'd love to bring some flytraps and Paphs from pow stateside.
I understand that I would need Cities certificate? And that's good for 7 years or so?
I was trying to understand the costs and what it means but honestly don't understand the process.
Does somebody here has insight? What costs are involved and is it difficult to get? I understand the magic number is 12, everything over is threaded commerically export.
Many many thanks in advance
Best
Christoph

I won't claim to be up on the current regulations, but to the best of my understanding, you need:

1) An import permit from the USDA APHIS
2) A CITIES certificate from the origin country's authority.
3) A phytosanitary certificate from the origin authority.

Do I really need all that? I thought for less than 12 plants was an easier way
