I received this beautiful oncidium plant today. The Thai seller claims it is named Oncidium Harunda. I tried doing research on the internet, and I can find nothing.

I had to pre-order it as the plant ships from America (so the seller claims). He is extremely knowledgable about orchids and has a great store in Chiang Mai Province and sells online specializing in rare and expensive orchids. His English language is also great.

If anyone has any knowledge about this oncidium, please reply (and of course leave me any comments about the plant itself.)

Thank You so much.

Edit: I have been in contact with the seller to get more info on the origin of this beautiful oncidium. This oncidium is (in the seller's words) "an original hybrid orchid". This probably means that the grower has not registered the oncidium with RHS and the plant probably is the grower's own hybrid cross. But I will stay with 'Oncidium Harunda'.

Unfortunately, there is no registered hybrid of that name, nor one using that as a cultivar epithet.

Thanks Ray. This is where trying to catalogue my plants in Thailand becomes difficult. There is the translation error possibilities and I am finding out that Thai names of plants may differ for the same American name.

I guess I will just have to live with this. NBD=no big deal. Nevertheless, I think that this will turn out to be a beautiful oncidium when it blooms. I am happy that I took a chance on it.

By the way, I am sure the seller is 100% reputable. I have chatted with him on several occasions.

Thank you for your help.

Ray. The seller is telling me that this plant is "an original orchid hybrid". I am guessing that it is not a registered plant and the grower just gave it a name.

Ray. I added an edit to my thread explaining the fact that the plant is not registered and is simply a name given to a grower's own hybrid oncidium.
