Gardenia 'Fortuniana'
Default Gardenia 'Fortuniana'

One of my favorite flowers is the Gardenia. I had some years ago and lost them when I forgot to water (just once!) and haven't dared to try them since. This spring, though, I decided to try them again and bought two Gardenia 'Fortuniana'. I really wish I could share the fragrance.

I have them outside for the summer but they will come indoors this fall. Do you grow these, too?

Leafmite,I'd love to do them inside but found my conditions are not to their liking so outdoor cultivation is the best I can offer. Oh,the fragrance!!!

It would be fun to share the fragrance. I don't even see Gardenias even at the local florists in this area.

It has been a long time since I have grown these. I have heard they can be a challenge as a houseplant and that is why I waited so long to replace them. I will have to do a little research before winter comes. :|

Mine is a tree shape and survived the winter in the garage with careful watering and near freezing temps. Bounced right back in the spring

My garage gets too cold. I have tried to winter over bulbs and other things that people usually winter over in their garage but I have never had anything survive. When I had these before, they wintered over well in a north-facing window so I will probably try that window again for them. I plan to try to keep them fairly small as I read that many people use them for bonsai. Not sure if the 'Fortuniana' was the best choice for that, though.

WOW! Thanks for sharing! I also used to have one years ago and mine too died, I often think of Getting an other one, but haven't yet...
