thanks you all for listening. Not much you can say but oh crap...
I will not use my debit/credit card for anything but ATM cash when I need a few bucks. I can use my run of the mill visa charge for everything else. I dont even know why now looking back why I was using the debit card so much. It doesnt make any sense now to me at all why I hung myself out there like that and all I had. Its that it wont happen to me syndrome. Well yes it can happen to you and anyone else who uses credit these days..

Smart chips are the future . I think eventually they will come to realize covering the cost of them over the long run will save a lot of people money time and aggravation including themselves. They have to do something to keep these hackersz off the cards. Put them out of business.

My wish for the day is that these people find peace in their hearts and overcome their addictions.
You may continue to steal and cheat others but it will never fill the void in your spirit. Your spirit is ill and needs tending to. Your wardrobe you stole from me at Macys will look good on you in court.

Sorry to hear about your trouble - have to be soooo careful with plastic and your statement charges. Loads of people never check them!!

Really like the Costco Amex, has a pin but also my photo on the back. Easy id check for sure. Only downside is that Amex is the card not accepted everywhere!!

Anyone still using cash these days?

Bummer on the situation, RJSquirrel. We experienced identity theft quite a few years ago...back when it's was just starting to become a problem...and, at least now there are more resources to help a person deal with it. When it happened to us...let me just say it was a 2+yr royal PITA to get it cleared up.

We love our Amex too but yea, not everyone accepts it because of the increased fees for the merchants. The pic is wonderful for ID purposes but do you know how many times I've used mine only to have the clerk NOT even check the back? It's not doing anyone any good if it's not being checked.

My other cards (including debit) say "see ID" on the back (rather than a signature)...more often than not the clerk doesn't even look.

Identity theft is on the rise and at the same time many stores have gotten lax in their policies surrounding card usage....bad combo.

way back when I was in the retail music business '94-'97 we had to ask for photo ID or driver license to approve the sales on credit cards bec a little box would pop up and we had to fill it in with the appropriate info. Many times improperly, but if that card ended up hot and you didnt follow the procedure you were gone. The End.

I think also that the employees of stores like Macys dont follow the procedure and ask for ID bec I think they really dont care. Its too much trouble ticks people off and they dont want to make anyone upset. I thank them when they ask for ID and let them know what a good job they are doing...Now I ask dont you people ask for any ID?.. You would not be surprised out of at least 5 I asked not one could say yes. Thats part of the problem indeed.

But 7 - 10 days I learn from the bank after they do their Fraud Investigation my money will be returned. In the mean time...I have a lot of accts to examine and put them in a safer place..

You just have to take it on yourself to be more careful...

I guess you all heard the news at 5 today if its been 5 that the frauds are hard at work and some people had their bank accts drained overnight. I hope they find a way soon to stop this... I am lucky that I dont have much to steal but at the same time makes it more important. Absolutely amazing after they all knew about this and they couldnt stop it.. In restrospect they we and all of us who had used HD should have ALL cancelled the cards. This may reach Billions of dollars and that might get someones attention. Ya think?

I got a call from AMEX a while back, asking if I had been making purchases in Vietnam...

I asked how someone there could get my number and they explained that they have random-number generators, and as long as the checksum is valid, they can try different expiration dates to get a valid "hit". Many vendors don't ask for the security code, so the purchase is okayed.

I just found out that my credit card had been compromised. It had not been use but my info had been stored. Luckily my bank which is in town cancelled the card while I was on the mountain.

They ordered me a new card, now I'm scared to use it when it arrives. They said Visa won't tell them where it was compromised. I think I will call them and see if they will tell me.

wow unbelievable this is becoming for some if us. They hit my other card which was credit only 4 45.00.. It was already maxxed out but that ones gone now too. I got 12 dollars in my pocket ...

what its going to take to stop these people is us taking matters in our own hands and start cutting the credit off..

Its all over the news again today about people getting fraudulent charges in the US generated overseas in Europe.

And Ray thats amazing they can do that even randomly and end up with something viable. Absolutely amazing. AMEX is pretty particlur and that they called doesnt surprise me but the fact that is was used and worked at all does..

I just dont know how to feel about this. Im angry one minute then thankful the next, then pissed off mad at the world for harboring such criminals. I think this may be one of those moments where you have an epiphany of thoughts from a devine force and your life has just changed and will never be the same..

and Shannon, Im so sorry this happen to you too. The longer this thread is up the more we will see here who have been backhand credit wacked..

I think I would rather be held up at a Stop and Go parking lot. At least when they were done if they didnt shoot ya its over.

I got an e-mail today that I am going to get issued a new credit card because of the HD hacking........but they also said that I must continue using the old one until the new one arrives ! HD is going to lose millions on this debacle, I am sure that some shady customers are going to be using their own cards for purchases and then claiming that they are fraudulent. I have never once had my signature checked by a cashier, in fact I once wrote Not my Sig on a screen and nothing happened......
