ah, gotcha. you midi mappers seriously blow my mind sometimes. im super old fashioned, save for my little digital fx box for my bass. our keyboard is actually the better half’s, but she lets me bang away on there occasionally, especially for drum kits. that’s when the midi stuff starts showing up and i get all scared. sometimes with my regular gig we will mess with those generators, but the other guy is usually doing that while im generating ambient noise on the bass. im glad he likes messing with that stuff cause it’s waaaay over my head

Totally with you tmoney! I used to tinker a lot with midi. But these days, just powering on the digital instrument and just playing enjoyable tunes that I love to play is about all I do now. That is so nice that your other half plays keyboards as well.

True! drum kit sounds are incredibly appealing. Absolutely love the clarity and power in sample drum kits. Do you output the sound through powerful speakers?

yeah, turning knobs can get tedious, much like micro analyzing orchids! takes the fun out of it real quick...

and well, being that we are apartment dwellers, ive geared my studio towards headphone monitoring. thru this ive found that with high quality (yet expensive) phones, the nuances of sound are soooo much better. and with my main gig, which is me on bass and my buddy with electronic music, we’ve come to rely on headphones to really hear what we are doing. this is a problem tho, because we want /are trying to line up a live set or two, and we are worried that the sound won’t translate well to a room. he is doing all the post processing and trying to emulate more of a room so we can tailor the sound more. but in his flat, with a family and neighbors, we just don’t have the option to turn it up to 11!

are you using phones as well? it for sure took some getting used to for me....

i meant to ask also if you collaborate with anyone? it’s so easy now with the cloud.

I use head-phones during early hours of the morning, and the onboard speakers at most other times.

Back in the earlier times - in the efnet #midi IRC channel, many many years back now, the irc channel members (including me) would just do some short collaboration. That was a long time ago! These day, I just play the digital piano to relax (when away from the work times, it's mainly orchids, and music - and I tinker a bit with some electronics on the side).

My most (very long time ago) memorable collaboration - which was totally unforeseen/unexpected, was when I wrote a bit of music, and sequenced it on a synth, which I shared with the IRC #midi channel members - so that they could listen too. And one of the members gave me a surprise when he arranged/re-arranged on his gear, which sounded so nice. That was a long time ago though, but still nice sounding. That music is the one mentioned at LINK.

I'm thinking that you have nice results from your music endeavours as well!
