Default Butterwort Tissue Culture

Working on propagating Mexican Butterwort via tissue culture. This is Pinguicula Moranensis J. 2 weeks in from sterilized explants (carnivorous leaves and meristem). The leaves have yet to show any signs of striking and the meristem died but the 2 leaves encapsulating the meristem have started to grow. They were whitish pink when I plated them but have now started to unfurl and turn green. Unfortunately, I didn’t snap a pic when they were plated. These 2 pics represent 4 days growth between them. Hopefully, they will form calluses and begin to generate plantlets in the near future.

Cool!

So that gel has nutrients as well as growth stimulants and rooting hormones? I guess I don't know much about the nitty gritty of meristem cloning...

Yep. This medium is Linsmaier and Skoog basal medium which was developed in 1964. It contains the macro and micronutrients, vitamins and sucrose needed for in-vitro plant development and is kind of an all purpose blend for a variety of plants. It’s too hot for carnivorous plants so the first run was half strength and the second batch was 20% which I just replated to. I also added a couple synthetic hormones/plant growth regulators, BA and NAA in ratios that promoted the most shoot development and plant weight based on a paper I read. They’re super potent and only used .2mg/L and .1mg/L of medium, respectively.
