HA-my dog brought me a rat last night, very dead. i was grateful and so were the vultures

there is a line from a Tom Chapin song, i don't remember the exact wording but its something like "we love to see your cousins come, and we love to see 'em go!" lol

i am extra grateful for the turn of the year. this Gregorian construct of artificial life gauging creates the BEST opportunity to turn a new leaf, try a new way, and fix things you did wrong.

i hope i can be a better me in '21

My dog brings me mice and my cat birds/ I am grateful for the mice catcher. but not the birds/

I can echo your gratefulness and I am sure ready for the new year and my vaccine when it is my time. Ready to travel out of the house without fear of the big bad virus entering my life. I am so healthy except for allergies that seened to go beyond seasonal this year.
Ready to hike in the mountains, drive to see the Sand Hill Cranes just south of me in NM in a wild life/bird National reserve.

It seems like gratitude for dogs is a common theme here. Of course, I'm sure cats are included, for those of us here who have cats instead of, or in addition to, our dogs.

I'm also reminded by a few posts above of how grateful I am for my grandparents. They are all passed on now, but my paternal grandparents were my anchor, the lighthouse in my young life. They had seven grandchildren and would take turns having us over to stay with them for several days at a time, grouping us in twos or threes. We often went on fun and interesting trips, and one time, they took me and my oldest cousin on a three-and-a-half-week vacation out west. Those happy memories will last a lifetime. I'm grateful for my maternal grandfather, too, who I did not see all that often, but when I did, he was so cheerful and loving. My maternal grandmother died before I was born.

Gracias, Fuerte Ray, for bumping this up. Is always on a to-do list, because I think it's an important message, but never quite get there.

My elder daughter taught me about journaling gratitude many years ago. I do so every day...just not used to doing it here. After her death, it became a most important way for me to remember being grateful for the day. So I'm thankful for her wisdom.

Today, I got a freezer delivered. I'm grateful to find one, grateful to have afforded it (stimulus), and grateful to be able to tell the guys delivering it that it would go into a very easy spot for them. We had a great conversation and connected.

A dear friend came today for her weekly visit. She can barely walk, but insists on coming to me, to keep herself motivated. Her attitude about her disabilities humbles me, and inspires me. I'm so grateful she's still a part of my life.

I am so grateful for my friend, Lou, who is a real trouper.
She came wearing two mask, spent over an hour getting me medication for asthma. I had the script since I went to urgent care for a Covid test, and all my asthma symptoms mirrored Covid. She gave me meds to have on hand incase I was positive. The negative Yah for Covid came on my 79th birthday. Jan 6th, as I watched the riot enter the capitol. It is a birthday I will never forget
I am grateful for the strength of my daughter Connie, age 54 who tested Positive for Covid the same day I got tested. She has had symptoms that are increasing every day, but on Wednesday this week, She was at the University of Alabama med center Covid and Infusion clinic and was given the Antibody IV, drove her self to an from and has been sleeping a lot in the daytime, her main complaint is severe fatigue. I was very worried about her yesterday and the day before, but when she called me she said Dont worry mom, my symptoms are mild. She has C pap that keeps her oxygen up when she is napping and also has an albuterol machine that she is using for severe shortness of breath. I am praying she is right in saying it is Mild. I am grateful that she is able to care for herself and my heart aches that I can not be in Alabama to help her. She is 100% disable from the military service, and also 100% for social security, so she has the VA hospital and Medicare for the private physician at UAB. I am grateful she is close to both and for what I can tell, she is being given excellent medical care. Please say prayer for my strong daughter to survive Covid. This the 11th day of being infected with symptoms I am a protective Momma/ And I am grateful for being approved for a vaccine when my number comes up. After the second shot and a period of three weeks, I will feel safe going out to help with the mass injections. I am retired RN, but can renew my license for volunteering to give the vaccines, when I am approved to by the NM dept of health. I am sorry this is so long, but I am grateful for Orchid Board, and having 5 second year new bloomer. So beautiful. taking care of my orchids keeps me mentally healthy. and I am grateful to feel healther for the first time in two weeks thanks for my friend going to the pharmacy and the meds that with taking them just one and half days. I have energy and feel so much better. This is my first severe Asthma attack ever alwas before it was seasonal in the spring form the pollen and my cottonwood tree. And I am grateful that LouAnn spent three hours vaccuming and dusting my open space living area. She is a true friend that I met when I was her husbands home care nurse 10 yrs ago.

I am grateful for all my OB friends and especially you, Fuente Rav. I do feel so much better today. I spent two hours with my orchids, have two or three struggling, I made PH corrected water, added KelpMax and have watered all the growers and strugglers and have them in a east window. Have all my bloomers and Oc alliance, and my poor spotted tou, who is now a hr old from seeding. I see that the black spots are spreading on one leaf, sigh. I am going to keep her and be patient.

Also for my friends here and all over the world, thanks to orchids.
I am grateful for you Ray, who keeps talking about KelpMax reminding me that my seedling slow growing, and getting a few buds of roots. I am going to leave these two babies in the KelpMax for 24 hours and then leave to air for a while, until I remember to givre them a roots drink again. Many thanks Ray and I am happy you and yours are healthy and happy.

Just one from me today, but for me it's a biggie!

Bit of a long story: when I first visited this island on a holiday about 25 years ago the complex I stayed at had a very friendly Uruguayan head gardener called Nelson. I spoke no Spanish at all then and he spoke no English but a mutual love of plants demolished the barriers. On subsequent holidays he would always take me around the grounds showing me what had changed/was growing well etc. When I moved to the island he was thrilled and would always stop to say hello in the supermarket or toot and wave if he saw us out anywhere.
And then I didn't see him for ages. When I visited a friend who was staying at the holiday complex I asked one of the other gardeners where he was. I was told he had a bad heart attack 6 months ago. I asked how he was now and this guy looked sad and shrugged and I thought he said he had died. I mentally said goodbye.
In my garden I have a large poinsettia tree grown from a cutting that Nelson gave me about 8 years ago. Each time it blooms, just before Christmas, I think about Nelson and how sad it was that he was taken so young.
So today, I was walking my dog and went past a van parked outside a nearby house. On the side it said, "Jardineria Nelson". I've never met anyone else with the name here. I thought could it possibly be him?? I cut round the back of the house over some rough ground and there, up a palm tree, was the Nelson I knew! I was so happy.
I didn't disturb him then as he was up a ladder with a chainsaw but I came back the same way a little later and he was on the drive so I could safely call out. He was as pleased to see me and we had a lovely chat.

I can't remember ever being so grateful to have been wrong.
