so i thought this was interesting and a cool bit to share here

apparently the sprouted coconut just lives off the seed and completely escapes it once grown

here is the base of the tree- the coconut is at the bottom

Finally! by J Solo, on Flickr

i picked it up and saw that the eye of the nut has opened and that the nut shell was completely intact

peeled it away and ….

so clearly this plant lived, since i now have THIS.

but i have not ever seen a seed born plant escape the seed and leave it

That is cool. I always thought at some point the coconut just got split by the growing plant and fell away. Now I'm going to have to keep an eye on mine.

I found my coconut. It's soaking in a bucket, per instructions. After looking at last picture... what in the world have I gotten myself into!

WW- you will be fine...nothing will grow indoors in your daughters house at close to the same speed as outside in my yard.

also, i have a pretty big plant here, compared to others i have grown and lived near....the trunk of this guy is as thick as most mature (20+ year old trees) which is remarkable as it is only 5 years old...clearly it is not as tall as the older ones but it is not a regular sample either

Yeah, plus I'd at LEAST like to get a couple or three years under my 10 foot ceilings before it has to upgrade!

based on what ES said, i think that indoors it will be quite manageable for a while.

they are very magical plants and having one around does well for the soul....palms are amazing teachers about resilience and flexibility

So my coconut is still soaking. Is it about time to transfer it to its next home? I have a glass cloche awaiting...
