For anyone who doesn't know...

This is a summer rainfall Disa. The seedlings have green leaves now, but they shouldn't be watered heavily during this period of the year.

From what I gather, this species has an unusual growth pattern. It was written about in the book Grow Disas, but I have yet to observe it in person.

If anyone's interested in this species, learn as much about the Drakensberg Escarpment (South Africa/Lesotho) as possible. This is where the seeds came from.

I can mention that the soil this species grows in is a gravelly basalt (it is course - about 1/4" in diameter, not fine). It also grows amongst other types of low vegetation, so the tuberoids and roots might be entangled with the roots of other plants.

In cultivation, it might work to have a mix of coconut fiber chunks (small) with some course basalt.
