If you manage to find sources of Lepanthes in Australia, let me know too. I tried to find them with no luck.

I am living in Thailand and will return to Australia next year in March. I have L. Calodictyon, L. Tsubotae, L. Telepogoniflora, L. Mascula, and L. Escobariana plants.

A friend in friends has made a hybrid with L. Calodictyon x L. Saltatrix which he is sendng me mini-flasks of and sending seeds of L. Elata.

I am going to try flasking seed from the mature plants I have or pass them to a local I know who can and pass me flasks later. I want to bring these plants to Oz, but you know how kind our AQIS is to orchids - cant see lepanthes making it through.

My friend in France uses a 40x magnification lamp when polinating Lepanthes. I will be keen to see how anyone else goes with pollination. I think my friend recommended half strength of a certain media. I will check and post if he did.

Thank you for the information! I have successfully removed pollen from both of my species using individual bristles from a paint brush, but I am not certain that I successfully transferred the pollen to the new plant, because I don't currently have a magnifier (just really, really good eyes) so I can't tell exactly where inside the flower the pollen ended up. I'll be getting a magnifier at some point.

Please let us know how pollinating and flasking your Lepanthes seeds goes!

Also, if your friend in France has any other insights he would be willing to share (anything at all, I'm still a beginner!), please let us know, and thank him for me! I have seen photos of his hybrid, it's quite lovely!

Exquisit flower! I love Lepanthes, and after some success growing Lepanthes pilosella for the past year, I was brave enough to give some more a try when I saw them at the RHS London Orchid Show. Two of the four I bought are doing really well and putting out new flower spikes and new leaves. One, calodictyon hasn't grown any new leaves yet, but does have a bud forming. The fourth one died about a week after I got it home - I think the combined shock of travelling all the way from Columbia and then my early 'trying to figure out a good routine' for these was just too much for it.

If I can keep these ones happy over the next few months, I will try some more - there seem to be so many species! Any recommendations on more interesting ones to try would be very welcome!

I must be lucky. My L. Calodictyon, I bought them just after arriving at the nursery from Ecuagenera in Colombia. They were on epibweb blocks. Both were dehydrated. After 3 weeks in my wardian case, humidity at 90%+ and 23c max, I took them off the epiweb and put them into live spagnum. They have a minimum of 4 growths each. I am using fish emulsion at 1/2 strength and a 21/21/21 fertiliser at 1/4 strength on alternate weeks. Seems good so far as they are still growing. One is a bit faster than the other.

If you are in the USA I found dealing with Orquideas Del Valle very good. They sell CITES approves plants. Untitled Document They ship overseas if you have an order of $1000 and will get you CITES/Phyto. Or you might know someone in the states Lucky me - CITES? whats that. Phyto? Whats that? Gotta love Thai customs
