Indeed. So many tragedies amongst those great names. Part of the angst of comedy.
|
Sad truth.
I have a dear friend who spent quite a few years trying to do stand up in NYC. He always said that comedy either attracts or tolerates mental health disorders and the results are both equally tragic and hilarious. That always resonated intensely... |
the second flower on the papilo opened fully so i assume the lip on the first flower was just a defect or something happened in the bloom cycle that it got stuck

|
not so much suspense...we all know its pure gold in there

THose Cyms look happy! And wow, what a haul. But... there's always room for one more (or two more or three more... And that frog is wonderful!

:bowing i think all you cym growers are lying about those pots...the 1 gallon pots are all roots maybe 5% media and the 3 gal is maybe 15%...there is simply no way those pots are real LOL  |

Cyms just scream "share me"... It's nice to be able to untangle roots and get them apart gently, but quite a few need to be "persuaded" out of their pots with a wood mallet, then deconstructed with a serrated-edge knife. Or a saws-all. They do recover.

Love me some sarracenia! I had a mini bog in a half wine barrel for a couple years in dry ass Colorado but sadly a harsh winter punched its card. Will likely try again soon. Beautiful stuff as always, DC!
|
Quote:
thanks Dorchid! glad someone enjoys the pics! i know that there are some other carnivorous fans here and many over winter in the ground so you def need to do it again! |
I don't know what to say... just astounded by the different plants you have, and jealous, and words won't describe it. How fortunate you are to have grown up in a tropical wonderland environment.
The Sarraceniaceae.... I've tried so hard, and always fail, fail, fail. And crap, some are native here. I've given up. |

i know how blessed i am...and when i was sitting outside this evening...sweating profusely.... as my daughter delighted on the trampoline...this is great for orchids LOL |

I'm lovin me some lizards and frogs! Oh... and the blooms are gorgeous as well.
What's the name of that last plant... yes, again, please? |
of course, it is a dwarf royal Poinciana
that flower is not all the way open on the Islands they are called Flamboyants and come in all the magical colors on the NEON spectrum |
I need that DC!
---------- Post added at 12:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:59 AM ---------- And if I get greenhouse built I can get lizards!! |
i fear that I may live on the COLD end of their comfort zone but i may be wrong....I love to collect the seed pods with my daughter and they are easy to sprout if you know the trick ;)
---------- Post added at 02:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:52 PM ---------- meh! 9b is the coldest |
Can’t ya grow them as a houseplant?
|
i don't know about the dwarf...i have not seen how big it will get as mine is only a teenager and is in a pot.
the Royals are a 35-45 foot top with about a 60' canopy ---------- Post added at 03:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:33 PM ---------- Dwarf Poinciana Tree i think that if you prune it well it can be a tame housemate |
I love love love all your pictures. They are amazing. i have quite a few in bloom myself, but yours are amazing. Mine certainly look good, but the climate here it is just more difficult to get such spectacular blooms as you do. You have the prfect climate and it shows.
|
Good Lord DC! It says with vigilance I can train it to six or 8 foot? Maybe my buddy was right about needing a 30x128 greenhouse....
|
you are going to have so much time now that you aren't hauling plants.... |
i love the sequential bloomers...a bud, a new flower, a mature flower and a dead flower....goes round and round and round on the circle game

a while back we put in this fence and i tried to skimp on the stain and bought the only two tins on the "clearance" rack at Lowe's...they had the same color label...i also used a borrowed sprayer that failed and something else went wrong LOL..this pic is cool to me for two reasons, 1) it looks so much better as it gets covered and 2) every single plant that you see except for the vanda, was taken as garbage from my neighbors pile LOL

Very nice, Judah... I'd love to watch you learn to garden in Indiana (or Kansas.) We don't just drop 'em on the ground (or fence) up here and they grow. We work at it. 😉
|
School him Carol!!
|
now why on earth would i do that??? LOL
in my meager defense, i learned all i know about gardening from my two grandfathers and learned it all at their houses in Phoenixville pa and Lowell ma. one is all clay and the other is worse LOL and very little of it has any application where i actually live i am also never one to claim any real skill beyond geography. and finally:nana: you are all invited over to school me any time...i'll make tea or bbq or smoke some fish |
BBQ and ice cold beer for me please.

Nepenthes is easy to root cuttings from. Easiest, take cuttings from a newly growing stem with a basal rosette. Count down three or four leaf nodes, and sever below the leaf node. Cut off one or two leaves, careful not to take off too much (don't cut too close to node). Plant in perlite, keep moist and humid (shouldn't be a problem there). Nepenthes doesn't care for rooting hormones, so skip that part. When it gets four or five rootlets, pot it up.
My orchid buddy here has a greenhouse room with a whole wall covered in nepenthes... a couple years ago his daughter was trimming it up, and accidentally cut main growing stems. Whoops! It's now back to covering the wall almost as well as it was before. |
you are a constant source of knowledge

Actually lots of useless trivia unless you seek out the right crowd.

|
coming from you, that is exciting to hear...i have agree with SouthPark, they are so lovely that i almost don't care if they bloom.
I also realized that if they are as happy here as they seem then i might be landscaping my entire world with them |
