Stitz, I got this from Dowery Orchids but Dwayne seems to have ceased operations as an orchid dealer. Andy's and some of the South American nurseries carry Ornithocephalus species, though. I ordered one through Gary Meyer's Colombian Orchid Imports business this spring.

Nat, Thanks for the lead. The last communication that I recall from Dwayne (last year) was that he intended to email his current list of customers in the future - no new customers were desired. He suggested that the next time might be his last so, be prepared..... If Dwayne follows his plan, I expect to see another email in summer or autumn of 2011. Do you know anything different?

That is an impressive display. I love how the flowers spikes display themselves without support and the little flowers remind me of fans. Great growing !!!

Thanks Roly and nenella! The spikes grow fairly fast and towards the light so if I leave the plant facing in a different direction for even a day they start getting crooked as they re-orient.

Stitz, sounds like you know as much or more than I do. I'm not sure if I'm on Dwayne's mailing list, I actually know him through my dad who's an old friend of his through their local OS. All the plants I have from him I obtained during a visit we made to his farm (an amazingly beautiful place) in May 2009. Last I talked to him he indicated he wanted to get out of the orchid business to focus on the farm, but that's great if he's doing one last list. Dwayne's a really nice person with excellent taste in orchid species.

BTW, SBOE also seems to carry some Ocps. species, and I think I've seen them pop up on ebay once or twice.

Hi,

This seller on Ebay is using your photo to sell his plant.

Thanks for the heads-up, Ron. I had seen that and thought of objecting, but since it's being used via a link to this thread and not a direct copy of my photo I figured I don't mind.

Tom, this link worked for me:
Ornithocephalus gladiatus Miniature Species Orchid Plant | eBay

Interestingly, I was about to post a follow-up to this thread as I've decided (with some help from better-informed individuals) that this plant is not gladiatus but more likely inflexus or similar. What's being listed by this ebay seller could be the real gladiatus, which is very different from what I posted above. I have another plant from Colombia also labeled gladiatus but probably dolabratus. I'm traveling right now but when I get home in a few days I'll try to post some pictures of my cf. dolabratus and more of cf. inflexus, along with links to photos/illustrations of the real gladiatus.
