I suppose I am somewhat of a cliché . Bought myself a phal at a grocery store and became an instant Orchid addict . I went from 1 plant to 10 in a week. All I do now is research Orchids online or read books about Orchids. It has become something of an obsession.

There is a plethora of information on the internet about orchids however a lot of it is contradictory. So I joined here in the hope of benefiting from the wisdom of those who have been there and done that. And maybe avoid some of the mistakes others have made. So I will be posting a lot of questions I am sure. As there is so much to learn

My mantra had always been " if you can't eat it why bother growing it" Little did I know ! I just wish I had discovered these awesome plants 30 years ago.

I live in Louisiana where it is hot and humid 11 months of the year. So great for growing Orchids outside.

Welcome and congrats on the new hobby.

I would just say that a grower's plants tell the story. If they post photos of their plants blooming and looking beautiful, I'd pay more attention to their advice.

I get a lot of my growing info from the american orchid society culture sheets, carter and holmes grow guides, and orchidspecies.com (a bit more technical).

Happy growing!

Hi, and Welcome! There is a lot of contradictory information here also, and the reason may be that everyone lives in different situations. A lot of the information online is the "best guess" of orchid care which might not be what is best where You are!
