Howdy Orchid Board!

Just wanted to give a quick into. I've currently a single box store Phal my wife and I receive as a gift last year, but I'm looking to expand my collection soon!

I've gone through, what I would expect, is the typical first time orchid process: Buy an orchid on whim (or get as a gift in my case), dang near kill it following the advice from grandma/sister-in-law/lady at church, research online, do a little better, find Orchid Board, realize there is so much more you could do differently, go buy a ton more orchids! I'm at the final step, haha!

I am a long time reptile and frog keeper, and have built a few frog vivariums, although I don't have any currently. Eventually, I would love to incorporate more Orchids into a dart vivarium.

Does anyone have recommendations for orchids and orchid supplies in the N. Houston area? I'm going to the Arbor Gate this weekend for reasons other than orchids, but I plan on taking a look at what they have available in terms of plants and supplies. I'm happy to report back if anyone in the area is interested.

Looking forward to learning a lot from the collective wisdom of the group.

Johnny

Hmm, seems as you can't edit your username... Let's try this again without the typo in the username this time!

Welcome to Orchid Board, fellow Texan! I am not near you, although I AM growing orchids in Texas. I grow all of my orchids (except the mounted ones) in LECA. They seem to like it much better than the bark/perlite/charcoal mix I used to use. Have fun here on Orchid Board...BettyE.
