Smile Hello from Minnesota!

Hi everyone!
I recently moved back to Minnesota from Missouri, bringing my four orchids up with me. So far, three of them had made the move well, one casualty.

I've had random orchids, phals mostly, but one dendrobium and one catt in the last five years that baffled me...but I guess I've moved too frequently for they didn't like their new living conditions.

I went to the Orchid Show this past weekend in St. Paul, and it resparked my interest in my orchids. I hope to find out how to make them "happy" here in Minnesota. They seem quite dormant right now...but I have a random set of leaf growth on a flower spike on one (again, my 3 remaining orchids are phals.). Any help would be greatly appreciated as I learn and explore this great online resource.

Is anyone here a part of the Orchid Society of Minnesota? I would like more information on what the meetings are like if anyone knows!

I look forward to enjoying this site and visiting with as many fellow orchid enthusiasts as possible!

Welcome to the Orchid Board! Glad you found your way to us. I know that you are not the only member from Minnesota, or from Missouri either, so you should be able to find someone from your locality.

Hello from Minnesota! Male
Default MN Orchid Society

Welcome back to the frozen north! The MN Orchid Society is active, great fun, and holds monthly meetings with a variety of speakers and visiting vendors. Visit their website at Orchid Shows Events Care - Orchid Society of Minnesota.

I myself moved here from St. Louis, and although the orchids (not me) miss the humidity I've found growing here relatively easy. Obviously you won't have trouble hitting the low end of your temperature swing. I grow in the basement under HPS and fluorescents, and summer outdoors from about Memorial Day to late September, mostly encyclia species, cattleyas and other odds and ends.

Good luck!

Joe
