Phalinopsis Aphrodite 'Plantation'? Female
Default Phalinopsis Aphrodite 'Plantation'?

I bought a few orchids at a flea market, GREAT deal, but no names. I think this is a basic one so it shouldn't be hard, but I wanted to finally find out the names so I can learn more about them. You help is greatly appreciated!

I read that this was a Phalinopsis Aphrodite 'Plantation'?
Not sure what the 'Plantation' means but your knowledge can help!

I found three separate names for almost the same flower. I'm not quite getting it yet.

The one below is a Taisuco Kochdian 'Crownfox sugarloaf'
Phal. Taisuco Kochdian 'Crownfox Sugarloaf' FCC/AOS

That's the problem with trying to identify noids. There are so many similar looking hybrids out there that in most cases you can't narrow it down to a positive id. Just pick the one that looks the most like yours and go with that. Or just make up your own name like I do!

Ah, you need a little info on orchid naming .. check out these links -
http://www.orchidboard.com/node/26
Orchid Naming
If your plant has been tagged with Phalaenopsis Aphrodite 'Plantation' -
then you have is a species Phalaenopsis with a cultivator name.
Phalaenopsis = Genus (first letter capitalized)
aphrodite = species (first letter not capped)
'Plantation' = cultivator's name - is the name given by the cultivator to a plant that has won an award for showing this orchid
This orchid, as I have researched, is designated with HCC/AOS meaning that it has been awarded by the AOS (American Orchid Society) the Highly Commended Certificate and all divisions of this plant will be recognized in this manner.
I hope this clears your confusion

Here is another picture to further help you identify your orchid - http://www.orchidworks.com/orchids/greg079.jpg

If it came without a tag or identification .. it's a NOID
