Default Orchid ID help-- purple, white and yellow, bloomed 1x in 12 years

This Orchid has been alive for 15+ years now. The last time it bloomed was 12 years ago. Now that we got it to bloom again, we were curious as to what it is! Any ideas? It has been living on this branch the whole time. Been watering it 3-5 times a week for years, just recently started feeding it orchid food (duh!) and low and behold-- it bloomed! Just one bloom, but very pretty and have no idea how to ID it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't know what it is but congrats on getting it to bloom. 12 years is a long time to wait. I am glad you found out what it must of been missing.

Laelia gouldiana, or possibly another Laelia species or hybrid. I'll double check some references tonight.

Anytime a division of an orchid which should bloom does not do so under any conditions I give it, I send it to someone with different conditions who may have better luck.

After some more comparisons I still think Laelia gouldiana is likely, but based on just these photos I wouldn't rule out Laelia autumnalis or some similar hybrids.

It is definitely Laelia gouldiana. Plant in photo looks OK, but it is blooming 'light' (can set up to 5-6 flowers on the spike).

I just ordered one from SBOE. It came in a pot, filled with rock nuggets and nothing else.

After blooming, it needs a dry spell. Water very sparingly till you see the new growth in the spring.

Congrats on getting it to bloom! 12 years! I'm sure I would have neglected and killed it by then.

It's funny...I've had an angel wing begonia for years (5? Maybe) and had no clue that it was supposed to bloom until 2 years ago when I moved it to a brighter spot. 😳
