Large White Phalaenopsis
Question Large White Phalaenopsis

Hello all!

I am a returning orchid hobbyist. Several years ago, I went to a wholesale orchid nursery and bought possibly the largest phalaenopsis I have ever seen. Unfortunately, it lost it's roots and died a few months later. ( ._.) Today, I'm still looking for the same plant but cannot remember the breed of it. It had large white flowers to start. It was growing in a 6 inch pot with several roots hanging out. What was most distinct was that it's 7-8 leaves were extremely upright and were about 12 inches in length. Hopefully I'm not being too vague. Would anybody be familiar with a phalanopsis orchid that has that type of growth habit? Also, where would I find such a breed like that one? I'm more interested in the growth habit rather than the flowers.

I think there a fair amount of big white Phals (many of them noids).
But, hopefully someone can recommend some names, to help you in your search. You may also want to browse in stores known for selling orchids.

Phalaenopsis amabilis would be a species that matches.
Many big white hybrids have amabilis in it

Upright leaves must have come from the way it was grown, possibly narrow tall container to save growing space in some large commercial greenhouses.
Phals generally keep their leaves flat under good conditions. Other reason for "standing up" leaves would be lack of light, thus leaves stretching for light.

With that said, there are many white phals that have very large flowers.
Search online and it's only finger tip away.

I hope you find a nice replacement.

Winter Clouds ‘Mendenhall’ was a good one. I’m just now returning to the hobby as well and really related to this.

A little late to posting, but to me, Phal Sogo Yukidian is one of the most picturesque white phal hybrids I've personally seen. It always catches my eye at orchid shows
