ID needed: a wild orchid in Costa Rica
Default ID needed: a wild orchid in Costa Rica

Please help me identify this miniture orchid. The flower size is about 10mm. Pleurothallis?

habitat: cloudforest
elevation: about 1,500m
annual precipitation: about 7,000mm
climate: cool and humid

pbase has a pretty good photo library of many pleurothallis.

Pleurothallis janettiae is the closest. It has several phases of color it goes thru.




also, the noahproject has a nice list of species endemic to costa rica. most of them dont have ID's as of yet in 2015

Default confused

I saw this miniture orchid, today. I am confused between the one I posted the other day and this one. Are they the same species? Pleurothallis carpinteraes also looks similar to this one.

Sometimes you have to look at the entire plant to tell the difference between similar looking species.

It is also helpful to have several specimens of the same species in order to get familiar with the different variations that occur in a species' genetic pool.

Thank you for your comment. I don't have much knowledge about orchids and simply enjoy photogaraphing them in the wild. I will keep in mind.
