What does my phal's tag mean? Female
Default What does my phal's tag mean?

The tag on my Phal said
says: "White/ red lip 08/31/12 Dtps. Ching Ann Angel"

I understand up until the Dtps point.
And something about Dtps (Doritis?) now = Phal???
Asked on another person's thread, but I'll ask here too- if there was a difference before, what was it?
And where does the Ching Ann Angel come from?

Thanks

And unfortunately I threw away my first orchid's tag if it even had a name, and my newest one just said "Phalenopsis" They're both pretty though.

it means 'White/ red lip 08/31/12 Dtps. 'Ching Ann Angel' is a white phal with a red lip probably potted up in 2012 and its cultivars name is 'Ching Ann Angel'..and comes from the breeder who grew the plant and got an award for it and named it. If you have an un named hybrid and you get an award for it you can name it..yes you can name an orchid too!!!

you can search for the flower online if you dont know what it looks like

I have a REALLY STUPID question. And YES there are such things as stupid questions.

Since my orchid is "named" it is not a NoID, correct?
This seems logical to me, but just want to make sure.

absolutely not a NoId.. Noid is just net slang for No I. D...

same as like 43 employees I know at one company who have NO I.D.

And we have no I.D who they really are so people can be NOIDS too!!

That's correct! Since it has a name, you KNOW what it is! That's not a stupid question!

Dtps. (Doritaenopsis)..... your orchid is a moth orchid hybrid, a cross of Phaleanopsis orchid and a Doritis orchid. Although your orchid will be smaller than the regular Phaleanopsis parent. They created this compact smaller plant for windowsill growers.

The name of your plant is:

Dtps. Ching Ann Angel

or Doritaenopsis Ching Ann Angel

* you are an orchidgrower so you can never be stupid. Ordinary humans can.

I think Ching Ann Angel is a hybrid/grex name not a cultivar. No quotes on the tag to indicate a cultivar and Ching Ann Angel a registered hybrid with the RHS. It's Ever-spring Angel x Mount Lip, and the RHS says that used to be a Dtps.

Rosie's correct the tag should read Dtps. Ching Ann Angel, without the quote marks. it's 7/8ths phalaenopsis and 1/8 doritis. Dtps. Ching Ann Angel won two awards from the Taiwan Orchid Growers Association.
