Ryan, your Phal is amazing!! I'm a big fan of purple phals with waxy petals. Seems that they're hard to find in europe, which is a shame.
On the wishlist it goes anyways!

I wonder if this 'chid shares lineage with my Brother Sara Gold orchid, which is similarly shaped, waxy and fragrant, although a different color (yellow and purple). No one ever believes me when I say I have a fragrant phal!

Sekhmet--

I went to the website that was provided earlier in this post and basically went back, parent by parent until I found where all these genes came from. And P violacea was not far behind in the lineage, which is known for its shape, thicker petals and amazing fragrance. So it does not surprise me at all that Ember, among the few other violacea offsprings, have such amazing characteristics. If my Ember continues to grow as well as it has so far, I hope to present it to the Denver Orchid folks next year when I hope to have it in bloom again. I should mention, this plant bloomed at the same time as many of my phals and every single bloom is still on the spike, as new buds continue to grow. I'll need to go back and figure out when it bloomed but its going on several months now.

Best of all, this plant was a gift to me for my daughter's birth-- she just wants to eat it right now, but hopefully she'll appreciate it in the future as much as I do.

Looks like my Brother Sara Gold is out of totally different origins, with both P. venosa and P. amboinensis in its background (amboinensis gives it the scent). Interesting, how pretty divergent orchids can be so similar in shape/waxyness!
