A dear friend passed some years ago and left me with 1 bifoliate cattleya and 3 dendrobiums, plus a hobby that is getting expensive. One of the dens has given me 4, grown from keikis. Another has grown to immense proportions, even after breaking sections off as gifts. Sadly, the cat expired when the heat in the solarium was inadvertently shut off just before going on a winter vacation and froze. I'd love to find out what it was. it had 3-4 blooms per pod, and grew like a weed, with as many as 8 eyes per year. That's the red one here. The dendrobium also is very vigorous and I'd like to find out what it is too.

There are so many Den-phal hybrids, impossible to guess that one. The Catt looks a lot like Ctt (Slc) Jewel Box or one of its progeny or a relative.

I thought Jewel Box for the catt (Sylvia) also, but it didn't have the yellow streaks on the lip. Also, Jewel Box just has 2 blooms per pod. But you think the purple one, (Monica) is a den-phal hybrid? (I name them all after female family members since they're NoIDs.)

Can't see the flowers clearly, but Monica has that Den-phal look to me. What a wild one!

Monica keeps exuding drops of nectar from under the leaves and from the stems. Is that normal? She really needs to be broken up since I now have 8 new stems squeezing out from between existing stems. External new stems are easy to break off into new plants, but those inside? I have no idea how to release them.

We call that nectar "happy sap" Totally normal,
When you get the plant out of the pot, it is possible that it will jut fall apart at the weak points where there are old canes. If not, you can probably find the spots where it will come apart easily. Where there are new growths on the inside part of the plant, good places to separate it since the new growths will take off in new medium.

There are several clones of Slc. Jewel Box available. One is called 'Orange' and is orange in color. That might be what you had. Orchids by Hausermann has larger plants of both 'Orange' and 'Dark Waters' in stock most of the time even if not on their Web site.

Here's closeup of Monica from October 2020. Also show Renee (red) and Laura (violet). All are NoIDs. I believe the 2nd and 3rd are nobile dens.2 NoIDs bequeathed to me-20201030_133929-jpg

All three are Den. phalaenopsis hybrids. The middle one with elongated petals also has ancestry that likely includes antelope/Spathulata species.
