Hi everyone,

I was sent these photos by a friend to identify the orchid and source a replacement for a special occasion this month. No other photos of the orchid exist and the owner is now deceased.

My friend believes it's a phal but I have my doubts. Please help.

This is my first post btw .

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

It looks to me like a Cymbidium. There are so many very similar hybrids you won't likely find the exact name. It should be fairly easy to find one with this color pattern.

Gastrorchis, perhaps. Leaves would help.

At first I thought Cymbidium, BUT:
  • Sepals are too wide, and petal stance is 'odd'.
  • The flower stem has some 'zig-zag' for each flower, Cymbidiums have a straight flower stem.

Gastrorchis seems a better bet, but we need to see a photo with foliage to make a more positive determination.

The photos were taken over 10 years ago. I will let my friend know. Thanks, everyone.

Cymbidium hybrid of some kind for sure, probably impossible to figure out the exact grex, but it shouldn't be too hard to find a similar one.
