It can take several months for it to produce more blooms for you. Sometimes if you cut it around the node like they were telling you about you can get more blooms or sometime what is called a keiki which is a baby orchid. Don't cut them off until they have roots about 3inchs long. They are so cute to and can sometimes even bloom on the mother plant.

I leave them entirely if it is still green. Sometimes part of a spike will die and dry up, I trim it down to the next green node. Some say "if it's green, don't be mean". If your spikes are in the way and you want to trim them down it is your choice. I leave mine up.
