Cool Doritis pulcherrima & Doritaenopsis light levels?

Hello, I have heard that Doritis pulcherrima & Doritaenopsis in general require more light than Phals normally grow in. Is this true: do they require a drier period after flowering or in the winter?

I like to grow my phals in 1500 to 2000 ft candles.

Regards, mary

Sounds good to me Mary. No I don't find they need any rest period, perhaps more of a lessening of water since they aren't growing as fast as the warmer months.
I think you will find this fun to grow ... They always seem to be doing something interesting. They love to shoot out basal growths

Hello Mary !

For my part, I found that my doritis pulcherima prefer lower light than my phal.
Mine is still quite young ( 3 inchs leafspan ) but it`s already growing 4 basal growth !

Hi Gloria and Phalguy, do they, in general get to be quite big plants? Do you know of any vendors in Quebec who have good Phals to buy? If so, can you provide me with a website?

I know Terry Kennedy from Orchids in our tropics is at a show in Montreal this weekend and she is on the lookout for phals as we both are interested in the blue phals.

regards, mary

Mary,

I have not seen these anywhere yet in my area. The show might be a good place to pick these up.
All 3 of Mine came from cloud orchids.

They don't have some big floppy broad leaves as you know lots of phals tend to have. More sword like if you will. I'll take some photos tomorrow, you can see for yourself.

Hi Gloria, I have looked at their website and have never seen any phals (maybe one Doritis).

By all means lets seen some of your photos. I am looking forward to it!

Sorry for the delay, Mary. Just having some posting issues lately.
Clouds did have a number of them, guess they sold out. If you ask they put them back on the list
