3 spikes again this year. One is about 3 weeks ahead of the other 2. The other 2 are at least a month behind this time last year when I compare photos.
I entered it in the Society Show in Feb of this year and it got a 1st place ribbon, maybe it's been motivated to try and do better in Feb 2014.

That thing is like the energizer Bunny it just keeps on going. Can't wait to see it blooming. This is on my wish list or maybe I should rethink it is so big.

Wow, just read through the whole thread and the first thing i thought was holy moly that is one enormous phal. Congratulations!

You know at this size and in such good health, a plant like this could bring a good price at the right auction...ever thought about selling it? For example Orchids Limited has a huge old phal gigantea for sale at $5,000.00...

Im just sayin'...

hybrids are virtually $ worthless. I will probably end up donating it to the Chicago Botanic Garden at some stage.

I had read somewhere that phals live for 15 years, but then someone else said they just keep on going. This one is incredible, its a tough old broad compared to my other phals. With them the leaves crinkle or spot or tear......or attract pests. Not my BK !
I had tried to breed with it - but its a 3N, the "wrong" ploidy, so basically infertile. You see BKs at nurseries, but these are all clones.

Amazing, this is one of my favourite hybrid phals. Thanks for sharing.

My BK Golden Treasure isn't quite as floriferous as yours, but it's doing well in its own right! Two spikes, one lateral with another little lateral bud just starting. Who cares if hybrids are without monetary worth...they still can wow the crowd when they bloom!

I agree nothing seems to bother it. Mine should have shriveled leaves and dropped buds bc of how I forget about it and it's still gorgeous. My hardiest Phal.
It has has blooms since September (the current ones are new at the end of the previous spikes).
