Default What’s with this bulge?

Hi, this mini phal I rescued has seemed to have this bulge on the side for a few weeks now, i don’t think it’s brown much if at all. Is it a spike? Is it a deformed spike or is it part of last blooms spike now cut? Thanks!

It looks like an old spike that was cut or broken. Normally I wouldn't cut an old spike quit that short.

I agree with Paphluvr that it looks like an old spike. I don't usually cut them that close, either. It doesn't look to have turned brown yet, which means it was probably cut recently, not long before you acquired it. It's harmless.

I think you're referring to the bulging green part below where the cut spike is, correct? Sometimes I see this on phals pushing out a new root tip, doesn't look concerning to me though either way!

Oh really? I actually wondered if it was a root under as on the inside it looks like a root. Thank you!
