Easiest phal for novice grower? Male

actually it is a bit smelly! i told the girl it might be, but that was right when i saw it when she brought it in, and only because our sharry baby and colmanara both are quite odiferous and have the same style pbulbs. but we couldnít smell anything initially. so filled it with water and it sat in the kitchen while we folded clothes. about 20 minutes later when i went back into the kitchen it smelled like she had sprayed air freshener in there, but she hadnít...it was the orchid! small enclosed space and water and it was noticeable.
absolute noob....tmoney

sounds about right. It could smell like too much "cheap" airfreshener was used around it.

But that is my niggle with most P. violacea's too. They are very similar to Bellina's but just a sort of cheap knockoff, I have since discovered that the sap flowers produce all taste different too.

The sap that bellina's produce is the best sap out there.

On some of my non fragrant cattleya's the flower sap tastes like nothing, on the fragrant ones, they have flavor.

So yeah lets knock this thread a bit more off topic with that little tidbit and my nr 1 recommendation. if you get a p Bellina to flower, don't just smell it, taste the flower sap. It's better than honey.
