I have lots of mounted orchids ..... Male
Default I have lots of mounted orchids .....

Over the past month, I have managed to acquire a large number of mounted orchids that, at the moment, are living outdoors. Most of them are Aerangis, Angraecum and Brassavola orchids.

It just dawned on me to think ahead a little bit - to Fall & Winter when they will all have to come indoors.

Does anyone else grow mounted orchids in their home?

LOL

Sorry, almost everybody here has eyes bigger than our winter watering wands.

Mounts really do need to be watered every day. In a dry heated home, maybe more often. Enclosing them helps, but then air circulation and rot issues become problematic. People solve the problem differently: portable humidifiers, using a spare with lights and / or misting systems, light stands enclosed in a plastic covering.

I have a large room humidifier in my living room, and I use LED Grow Lights on my orchids. I get good humidity and good light.

Then your only issue will be watering enough. There are a lot of threads here on Orchid Board from people who grow in setups like yours. Look up old posts by katrina, who had (I hope still has) a great setup with carts, lights, drain trays and pipes to carry off the water. Water Witchin recently has shown her similar setup.

A lot of people use a large capacity sprayer to water mounts in the house. The kind that straps on your back works well if you're strong enough. The free-standing cylinders never have a hose long enough to reach things up there unless you carry them in your arm.

I bought a cheap spray bottle a few years ago and just spray the air plants and mounted orchids with that until the roots turn green. I have all my orchids on shelves that are lined with cheap, clear plastic table cloth sections so if any of the orchids drip, it isn't a problem.

I have mounted orchids indoors but they're all small. At present they are all in a wardian case. I can keep the humidity between 70-85% with just one daily misting. I deal with the issue of stagnant air by running a little computer fan in there 24/7. It works well!

one thing that people commonly do (for miniatures at least), is set them up in a terrarium

edit: just to be clear, these aren't mine, just grabbed them off google. Setup looks like exo terra tanks with egg crate on the sides

I love your set up! So envious!

You can hang them from glass wine bottles, glass drinking cups, clay pots or anything else heavy enough. If you have shelves, buy hooks and fishing line and hang them from the shelves.

I have all my Angraecums potted now in lava rock but Leonis, didieri and elephantinum will all grow fine mounted without a terrarium as long as they are given enough Calcium.
Likewise, my Brassavola nodosas are both currently potted in lava rock but they have also grown mounted without any issue. They like Calcium, too.
I have some other miniatures, some Dendrobium prenticei and Schoenorchis that hang on my air plant wreathes. And, then, I have a terrarium for the rest. I am guessing the Aerangis would be happiest in a terrarium.

Just noticed you have a humidifier so maybe the Aerangis would be fine, too.
